Athens began to develop 700 to 800 years before the common era and reached its peak in the fourth century B.C.E. They overthrew their monarchical rule and made a system called demokratia or rule by the people. Later the Macedonians conquered Athenians and kept the democratic system till they got conquered in 146 B.C. It was a direct democracy that was centered around the Ecclesia that was open to all males above the age of 18 and made the laws and public decisions by majority vote. The agenda was set by the council of five hundred all chosen randomly, served one-year terms, and did the day-to-day government duties.

Feudalism is a loosely organized system in which powerful lords divided their land with lesser lords. It came from the fall of the Roman Empire in the fifth century. Those with land and power offered protection in exchange for their loyalty, military service, and shared crop production. The lord had vassals that he gave protection and ruled under him. They had to do things like protect the lord's manor. There are also serfs who are the bulk of the population that gave a share of their crops for protection in times of war. The government closely followed close to the monarch system.

Surviving the collapse of imperial rule the church also gave a system of government rule with the new feudalism system. It was around for 2000 years and still exists today and has the Ten Commandments as its rule system. As more Europeans joined Catholicism the church got more powerful and had a greater rule in government. The religious part is what held it together but it is also caused it to get bad looks since not everyone believed in it.

With the undermine of the feudal system many leaders of the towns like the centralized rule of a monarchy causing the growth of that system. Monarchs started to take all government rule and use a national army instead of one put forth by nobles. They gained most strength in the 1400s in nations like England, Spain, and France. They established national governments with national legal systems, identities, and taxes. Absolute monarchs ignored all other voices.

The absolute monarch hired loyal servants to help look over the nation because of the vast amount of land. The ruler had power over everyone including nobles. They were recognized as the strongest people that could protect the people and make laws for the whole nation. Two different monarchies are the monarchy of China and the British monarchy. The Chinese monarchy was an absolute monarchy where the ruler had all the power but also went into political distress forming different types of monarchies throughout the time but not many of them worked too well. The British monarchy is a constitutional monarchy so the royal family has rule over the government but the parliament decides the laws and policies that are made. These different types show the difference from the people having a voice to only one person having a voice over the country.

John Locke came up with the idea of the natural rights of all men including life, liberty, and property which was used to form legislation like the Declaration of Independence. Also, Thomas Hobbs came up with the social contract theory that gives the right of power to the people leaving them with the overall opinion of what rights they have and give up.
