In schools, kids are instructed and provided guidance to give them knowledge to give them a bigger chance of living what we call the "American Dream". Which means that they can have a chance of being rich. Mann realizes that most people that live prestigious lives, are usually significantly smarter than citizens aren't s fortunate. After this, kids stopped working in factories to focus on school. Mann would then on be quoted as "Father of American Public Schools".

Under the idea, citizens in Massachusetts agreed to pay the extra tax for education for their kids. It later proved it helped kids to get more prestigious jobs. Think about this though, if Mann never spoke out about school, don't you think kids would still be working in factories. We probably never would have reformed or developed if schools weren't something.

She realized that prisoners were treated in conditions that highly risk health. For example, rats running everywhere, cold stone cells that most of the times  prisoners would get colds and illnesses, and also food shortages. Dix was overwhelmed by the conditions so she did something. She sent a report to the government, and they surprisingly approved of the report. 

This was much needed because some people in jail, actually did nothing. Today, special aid people would get a specific treatment. Back in that time, they would be sent to prison because of how they would act. They would be classified "crazy" or "strange". So nearly half of the inmates actually deserved the treatment.
