The minor characters are Chris and Scott's parents, and the rest of the football team.  The plot of this book is about Chris and Scott helping each other out with their weaknesses. Scott was never put an any games for more than a few plays, while Chris is the star player on their team. Scott does well in school, but Chris has problems in school and could lose his position on the team if he doesn't do well on an upcoming reading test. They help each other so they can live their dreams. Scott is bullied at the start of the book by Jimmy Dolan, then his dad motivates Scott and encourages him to join the football team as a kicker. But his soon to be new coach plays him instead as a Wide Reciever. This task was way too much to ask for Scott because he dropped every pass, and he messed up his routes causing him to never be put in to a game and to be a big failure to his team. But he meets Chris along the way and they become friends. They would go over to Scott's house to play and practice football since Scott has a home made football field at his house, they would also study and tutor because Chris needs to get a good grade on an upcoming test so he is able to stay on the football team.
