  • Pose, “The Category Is Royalty”
  • Pratt, “The Arts of the Contact Zone”

For this activity, you will create two posts that offer academic summaries of “The Category Is Royalty” and “The Arts of the Contact Zone”. Each post should have:
  • A focus on each text’s presentation of identity and creating “mixed” texts.
  • A “packed” introductory sentence 
  • Sentences that use the creator’s name, signal verb, and concrete explanations of important ideas or moments
  • 2-3 paragraphs that group the important ideas or moments logically.

If you finish the summary task:
  1. Review your summaries of the previous texts.
  2. Create a new post that notes what is missing from your previous summaries. 
    1. Explain what work you will need to do to use this summary in Assignment #2.
    2. Connect this “review” post to the original summary post.

Other African American people and white people to educate on their culture.  They're giving us examples on how  people who use this language are seen differently or mistreated.

It basically says how we should be aware of these people in our lives and not to ignore them. The audience is everyone, people with mental illness can know they're not alone, while others can be aware of this ongoing issue in society.

A group of African American/ Latinos, queer, and poor citizens enter a museum and attempt to steal 1800's royalty clothing.  A blank trans woman seats herself in a throne, posing as the queen, while her followers bow down to her. She challenges the ideology that a queen must be white, wealthy, and straight. This scene promotes the idea that authorities should be more diverse in culture and communities. The thieves ironically wear the clothes  of their cultures enslavers and captors throughout history; mocking these slave owners years later by wearing clothes of royalty. 


Since this group was historically the targets of racial injustices and ridicule, they question and contradict the "white authority" in society. The kids then escape the museum go to a ballroom competition and celebrate their culture with other people in the LGBTQ+ and African American/ Latino community.
