         <description><![CDATA[<div>I&nbsp;asked the children "Do you recognise this place? What did the setting looked liked? Is it day or night, indoors or outdoors? What do you think is happening?"<br><br>All children: "MBS!! We have been there before."<br>Laura: "Why is there a clock?"<br>Xin Xuan: "It is very late. There are no people."<br>Kacey: "The lights are so colourful. Maybe the party ended."<br><br>From this picture, the children were unable to elaborate more as there was not much to talk about.&nbsp;<br><br>I showed them a second picture after and they could easily recall that they had seen the countdown on television before. The clock and lights made better sense to them. The children even shared and discussed their favour colours during the fireworks display.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) I printed the children's family photos that parents sent for the picture talk about their families.&nbsp;<br>2) What questions did you ask?&nbsp;<br>- who is in your family?&nbsp;<br>- how many people are there in your family?&nbsp;<br>- what do you like about your family?&nbsp;<br>- what do you do with your family?&nbsp;<br>- what do you think they are doing in the picture? <br>3) What did the children say?&nbsp;<br>Chloe: that is my mummy, korkor, jiejie and daddy.&nbsp;<br>Maegan: Is it at the beach?&nbsp;<br>Chloe: not the beach. When I go holiday I take picture with mummy daddy, korkor jiejie.&nbsp;<br>4) Did you face any challenges?<br>For those who didn't send a photo, it was difficult for them to refer to and talk about it. However, i still asked them to share from their memory and what they know. I also asked questions to everyone so that they can take part and share their thoughts and ideas too.&nbsp;<br>5) What would you have done differently?<br>I could have asked more open ended and probably leading questions to help children understand what is happening in the photo. I could also ask them what they think might have happened before and after the photo was taken.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I showed the picture of the recent article about Chinese new year to Honesty 1 and asked "What can you see in the photo?" Then the children answered instantly and we started the discussion there.<br><br>The children shared "That's a rabbit!", "There are plants", "The rabbits are big", I then followed by "Why do you think there' are rabbits displayed?".<br><br>Trilise answered, "For the children to play".<br><br>It was a bit challenging to explain the connection of the rabbit to Chinese new year and why. I just made it simple so that they can understand. Also, the article is very long so had to get the main topic.<br><br>I can print a bigger and variety of pictures of the same topic, for example, it could be about Chinese new year and get the children to see a variety of photos about it.</div>]]></description>

What did the children say?<br>- The place in the picture is the dramatic corner!<br>- We need to learn how to take turns at the dramatic corner<br>- We can play here when Teacher Renee let us<br>- All of the friends can play here but not together, only a few<br>4. The challenges I faced was that since the children have not played in the dramatic corner prior to sharing this picture, the children were not aware of the activities ready for them. (This sparked the children to ask me questions like What can we do there? Why are there houses placed there?)<br>5. I would print more POVs for the children to be able to take reference from and get a better view of the dramatic corner. I would also like to take the children on a walk to the dramatic corner so that they will be able to match the picture to the location.</div>]]></description>

Children's responses:<br>- There are alot of people. (Zayden)&nbsp;<br>- This is near Marina Bay Sands! There are so many of people. (Rais)<br>- This was on New Year. My mummy said Marina Bay Sands got a lot people stuck inside because everybody went to watch fireworks. (Miranda)<br>- We must make sure we hold our mummy or daddy's hands so we will not get lost. (Regan)<br>- We must not follow strangers. We must not hold stranger's hands also. (Yun Hee)<br><br>4. The first question was broad thus the children displayed confusion thus I prompted them further with the second question. With the second question, the children were able to share a more in-depth insights and answers.&nbsp;<br><br>5. I would have gotten them to share what they have done during New Year before presenting the photo. As we discussed about safety in crowded area, it will be great to have photos of relatable images such as indoor playground or shopping mall that has children too. </div>]]></description>

They could only respond by pointing to my questions eg Can you spot a lantern?<br>Q5) After doing the sharing with the children, I realized that there is actually a video of the CNY light up too which would be great to share with the children like a virtual tour of the light up area.<br>Prior to this picture, children were shown a picture of the Christmas light up during the transition hence some of them were able to respond better.&nbsp;<br>Printing this in A3 would be better too.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

The quieter children responded through raising hands when asked if they had a Christmas tree at home or nodding or shaking their heads when asked yes/no questions.<br><br>5) Manage the group by appointing 1 child to speak at 1 given time (take turns to speak) because when the children got excited, there were too many responses and we couldn't focus on who to listen to.</div>]]></description>

The pictures I used was of different Chinese New Year lighting at Chinatown as well as pictures of families taking photo with the Chinese New Year lighting.&nbsp;<br><br>2. What can you see?<br>Why do you think they put up rabbits?<br>How do you think the family is feeling?<br>Which zodiac year do you think it is based on this picture?<br>Where do you think this is?<br><br>3. The children were able to share with me the different lighting that they see such as the rabbit, flowers, lantern and big Chinese words. They were able to decipher that they were Chinese New Year lighting.&nbsp;<br><br>4. The only challenge I faced was that some of the children were really shy to share. Thus, I first gave them a few minutes to observe the pictures before doing think pair share.&nbsp;<br><br>5. I would try to print more pictures relating to Chinese New Year to show the children. </div>]]></description>
