Day of Exam In-Class: 
Read and annotate the instructions 
Ask any questions you may have before you begin 
Note key words, especially verbs, in the instructions to be sure you are preparing to do what the instructions ask 
Plan your paper 
Make an outline on a piece of paper:  Remember, you will have summary (as your intro), body (your response), and conclusion (tying them back together). 
Get your document ready:  MLA heading, double spacing, font size, title 
Write your first sentence—be sure it includes the name of the author, title of the reading, and main idea.  
Use your time wisely 
Leave yourself 10 minutes at the end to review 
Check that you have the correct summary/response structure 
Proofread for clear thoughts, spelling, punctuation, and grammar 
Save your document to the desktop, so there is a back-up.
