Athena was Zues’s favorite daughter. She is the goddess of wisdom, war and the crafts. Athena was the wisest, most courageous, and the most resourceful of the Olympian gods. Athena’s mother, Metis, found out that she was pregnant, and Zues swallowed Athena. When it was time, Athena was born from Zues’s head, fully grown and wearing her armour. Athena is also the goddess of household crafts, giving people the gifts of sewing and cooking. She adopted one of the first kings of Athens, Erichtonios.

Because she was closely associated with Athens, the people of the city named it after her. Athena is thought very highly of by the other gods. She helped them with the aid of her wisdom, and supported them in fights.
She is celebrated throughout Athens and is given gifts for her courageousness and guides of wisdom. For example, the people of Athens gave her the olive tree, a sign of wisdom, peace, and plenty.

She also is honored by a festival that occurs every four years in her name. She is also loved by the city of Sparta, where she is a coin for their worth.

Poseidon is the God of the Sea. His weapon was a trident, which could shake the earth, and shatter any object. He was second only to Zeus in power amongst the gods. Under the ocean, he had a marvelous golden palace. Poseidon was the husband of Amphitrite, one of the Nereids, by whom he had a son, Triton. Poseidon had numerous other love affairs. At one point he desired Demeter. To put him off Demeter asked him to make the most beautiful animal that the world had ever seen. To impress her Poseidon created the first horse. In some accounts his first attempts were unsuccessful and created a variety of other animals in his quest. By the time the horse was created his passion for Demeter had cooled.
