I chose the milk carton/fight event because it is one of the main scenes and it leads up to there friendship, without it the scene they would not get in trouble and would not make fun of the teacher and become friends. This scene also creates flashbacks when the milk hits the wall it sounds like a gun shot and this reminds him of when his father died. I think this scene is very important because firstly it leads up to when they become friends and without it they would not get in trouble and would not make fun of the teacher together. Secondly it important because it creates flashbacks which gives you an idea of what his life was like before he moved. Finally it was important because it showed Joseph could defend himself against others so no one would pick on him.

The scene I choose is when there was a flashback of his Father during the Milk Fight as their were various styles of close ups and scans of the scene. Also how they used the camera to use it in a significant way that was relevant to the event. Firstly a long shot is used to snapshot the scene and give you background information, then they do a close up shot to show expression and facials on the peoples faces. Then at the end of the scene there is a long shot to show the group of people and the situation.
"Your definitely Dead"

The milk fight is one of the most sad and interesting bit of the film. This bit is were the friend ship begins but first there was a fight. How the fight started is when in class Christian and Seth are making fun of him. So when Joseph reacts and just hurts. But at the same time he remembers how his Father got murdered by soldiers, but i still don't understand what his father did . he was a great teacher. So as he saw he father got shot christian throws a milk carton at the same time and that makes him sad.

For my essay l am going to write about the Milk carton fight between Joseph/Christian/Seth as well. My three main reason's for picking this event is
That he remembers his fathers death and reflects on him.
that Christian relies that Joseph is not weak
How this event is how the friendship had all started.

Quotes to use include...
"YOU ARE DEAD"

I chose the Booger Attack scene (haha) because this was the scene that really created that hostility between Joseph and the two amigos Seth Quinn and Christian Kelly. Without this hostility there would of been no fight, no scolding and no friendship formed.

I choose the event when Joseph, Christian Kelly and Seth Quinn build their new friendship. This is an important part in the short film because it's when they put the past behind them and move on. It happens when Hazell O’Hara walks in trying to explain what happened in the fight Christian Kelly and Joseph had and then Hazel swore at the teacher, the three boys looked at each other and smiled then Seth Quinn made the joke about the teacher robbing the bank. I feel like this is when they all forgave each other, this is when joseph also becomes happy again and starts getting flashbacks of his dad again but this time it was a positive flashback.

For my essay l am going to write about the death of Joseph's father. I will also inter twain the Milk carton fight between Joseph/Christian/Seth as well. I am doing this event because l think it is the climax to this story. Most things unfold during this moment and many question’s are answered. This event is also crucial because it talk’s about why Joseph became a new boy and what happened to him back in Rwanda. My three main reason's for picking this event is

The effect his father's death had on him and how it impacted the story. Talking about the gun shot and how it cuts to the fight.

How the fight between the boys came about and how it effected the characters. I decided to choose this because i think it was an important and key point of the film new boy.
This impacted them because it was when they realized that it wasn't worth fighting for and it would be easier to just be friends rather than making people feel bad.
They all learnt a life lesson about how people can change and it also taught us (the viewers) a life lesson. The evidence of their friendship is at the end when they are all smiling and bonding together. This scene of the film is an important because it shows how no matter how different people are they can still bond.

The filmmaker uses flashbacks firstly in the milk carton scene where his father got shot at the same time when the milk carton was thrown, secondly in the classroom in Rwanda, showing the difference between the two places and finally near the end of the film where he is smiling outside the classroom with his friends.

I am going to explain how n his flashbacks he compares how he learnt at his own school and how it is a much different environment for him now. I will also state how the flashbacks always end when something around him gives him a fright or has the same sound effect as what he is thinking and when he is happy at school he remembers the times when he was happy with his father back at his old school where his dad was the teacher of the class.

I choose the milk carton fight. The reason I chose this scene is because I think that it was an important event that lead up to their friendship, without this scene they would not have ever become friends. I also think that this scene is important because it creates a lot of flash backs from when his father was murdered, and the milk carton hitting the wall behind him is what started it all as it sounded like a gun being fired. The different camera shots that the camera person has used make the scene appear more intense, when Joseph first walks out of the building into the court as the milk gets thrown at him you see everything from how he would see it. Then towards the end of that scene the camera gets further and further away to eventually show a long shot of the group crowding around the three main boys.

For my "New boy" film response essay, I have chosen the flashbacks that compliment Joseph's previous life.
These flashbacks, I believe are crucial because they signify Joseph's previous life. These flashbacks depict of Joseph's memories of his now currently deceased father. So therefore, the flashbacks were included to add in that "sentimental" effect to the film.
To Contribute to the "sentimental" effect, I noticed the film makers added background music that sounds so youthful etc. The atmosphere is more euphoric because they contrast with Joseph's emotions.

For my essay, I'm going to base it around the event, where Christian Kelly threw a milk carton next to the wall where Joseph was standing. Which continued to the kids around them encouraging them to have a fight.
Firstly, he had a flashback to his father before it happened, which gave us important information about Joseph's past.

Secondly, afterwards, the children gathered around him and Christian and encouraged them to fight, which then taught us that both of them didn’t actually want too from the filmmakers close up shots of their faces.
Lastly, the boys got in trouble, this lead to the boys making up and becoming friends which was shown from the filmmakers long shot and closeup views of the boys and teacher.

As for my film response essay, I am going to use "friendship" as the most important idea. Especially where they get in trouble and they walk back into class in the order of Christian, Joseph then Seth. In my opinion , I think that this scene represents that their friendship might be back together more clearly than other scenes. As therefore in the film when they represent friendship, the filmmakers used a "Medium Long Shot". I noticed that because as it is falling between the long and close shots, it is very informative. Also it makes it more realistic as they talk as for a medium long shot is used at a level close to a casual conversation.
