The federal government should take immediate action because as time passes, the problem rises. The inconsistency of the government can be noticed in the last 20 years when after 10 years of inactivity, the government increased the salary by 40%. Driving much business to reduce their amount of workers and some even to bankruptcy. Instead of giving the power to politicians, the federal government should give this power to economic officials like the rest of the countries that have a minimum wage established.

The minimum wage has been a debate topic for many years because of the positive and the negative aspects of raising it. It was established to prevent the exploitation of the workers at the time, but it is a problem because of the constant rate of inflation. The actual minimum wage is at 7.25 dollars per hour, but after inflation, it would be around six 0 dollars per hour. This forces people to work for more than 40 hours a week to only collect enough money to survive. The principle of “Worth of the Individual” is based on the belief of the importance of each American, but congress doesn’t care about it. The idea is to give the people the value they deserve and this includes a fair salary for American labor. People are suffering due to the minimum wage and they are forced to seek help from organizations because the salary isn’t enough to sustain a family.

The minimum wage was established by President Roosevelt with the idea of establishing a minimum income for Americans that would be enough to pay rent, food, and services. This has become a problem during these last 40 years due to inflation. The law ratified for the minimum wage didn’t establish a rate at which and how it would increase, forcing ratification of a new law every time the wage would change. At the moment, there is a debate between the Democrats and Republicans for increasing it to $15. The rise hasn’t been approved until the moment because of Trump’s administration position towards the topic. The inconsistency of the raise of the wage and the fact it is under the hands of politicians instead of economic officials has become a problem because it limits the government’s actions.

As an effect of the resolution of the case “West Coast Hotel vs Parrish”, stated that laws of the establishment of minimum wages weren’t against the constitution. The constitution doesn’t mention who should have the power of controlling wages, making it a shared power between the government and the state. Multiple times the government and the judicial branch have been in favor of the idea that the people should receive enough amount of money to survive and this can be seen in the case “Tipaldo vs Morehead”. The resolution mentions the establishment of a fair wage because an absence of it would be violating the contracts granted by amendment 14. The Federal government should have all the power to act because of the financial effects of massive raises in some states. The American people’s lives would indeed be positively affected by a raise, but it is important to keep in mind the cons of it. If the wage is double after many years of inactivity, it would drive many small businesses to bankruptcy and it would directly affect the economy.

To find the best solution to this problem, it should be removed from politicians’ hands and given to economic officials. By giving it to them, the Federal government would be able to reach a solution in which the people and the businesses would be mainly benefitted. It is time for the government to act and find a solution to this problem because it doesn’t seem the wage is moving until probably 2024. The people are directly affected because after inflation those $7.25 are around $5. It is also important to mention that a later attempt to raise it would guide to massive unemployment and poverty rates making an economic depression a possibility. By giving the power to the federal government, there would not be huge raises in states and districts avoiding economic problems in some parts of the country. The solution should be immediately before it is too late because the economy would not be able to handle another 10 years of inactivity concerning this problem.
