Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. An estimated 18 million acres (7.3 million hectares) of forest, which is roughly the size of the country of Panama, are lost each year, according to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization. This is a huge problem for many of the wildlife wouldn't have places to stay, and the carbon dioxide levels would build up and contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Most non-renewable energy sources are fossil fuels: coal, petroleum, and natural gas. Carbon is the main element in fossil fuels. For this reason, the time period that fossil fuels formed (about 360-300 million years ago) is called the Carboniferous Period. The Enhanced Greenhouse Effect caused by the accelerated increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere may be causing Global Warming. This could lead to the melting of the polar ice caps which would raise the levels of the oceans and cause flooding of islands and other low lying coastal areas. It may also have a major effect on rainfall and other world climatic patterns, creating extreme and unpredictable weather.

Large ice formations, like glaciers and the polar ice caps, naturally melt back a bit each summer. But in the winter, snows, made primarily from evaporated seawater, are generally sufficient to balance out the melting. Recently, though, persistently higher temperatures caused by global warming have led to greater-than-average summer melting as well as diminished snowfall due to later winters and earlier springs. This imbalance results in a significant net gain in runoff versus evaporation for the ocean, causing sea levels to rise.

Global climate change will affect people and the environment in many ways. Some of these impacts, like stronger hurricanes and severe heat waves, could be life threatening. Others, like spreading weeds, will be less serious. And some effects, like longer growing seasons for crops, might even be good! However, as the Earth keeps getting warmer, the negative effects are expected to outweigh the positive ones. Much of the people and the animals living in cold climates would have their environments melted. And just 1 meter of a sea level rise could cause much trouble for

Forego Fossil Fuels—The first challenge is eliminating the burning of coal, oil and, eventually, natural gas. This is perhaps the most daunting challenge as denizens of richer nations literally eat, wear, work, play and even sleep on the products made from such fossilized sunshine. And citizens of developing nations want and arguably deserve the same comforts, which are largely thanks to the energy stored in such fuels.

Consume Less—The easiest way to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions is simply to buy less stuff. Whether by forgoing an automobile or employing a reusable grocery sack, cutting back on consumption results in fewer fossil fuels being burned to extract, produce and ship products around the globe.

Stop Cutting Down Trees—Every year, 33 million acres of forests are cut down. Timber harvesting in the tropics alone contributes 1.5 billion metric tons of carbon to the atmosphere. That represents 20 percent of human-made greenhouse gas emissions and a source that could be avoided relatively easily.

In conclusion, the issue of Global climate change is very severe. Much of the people and animals will be affected by the issue that continues to grow. It is evident that this is a massive problem for the Earth, but some people still deny that it is happening. Much of what is caused by this change of climate. But despite all these issues, social action is also evident, much of what will be done in the future will help out the situation. I feel that Global climate change can be slowly but surely get better in the future. I hope that this situation will improve.
