The Big six breaks down the research process. In the library, the students begin the process by by wondering about what they are interested in the students will then use the Big6 to help them research and find the answers to their question online. The Big6 helps the students learn to evaluate information and websites. Then when the students create a presentation piece, it helps them to synthesize the information. At the end, The Big6 teaches students to think about their learning by evaluating their products and process.

As a Librarian, the Big6 and Super3 are naturally incorporated in the teaching of research and the creation of a product, which represents what they learned. The Big6 is something I use with grades 3-5, and I use the Super3 with grades K-1. For example this year the Kindergarten classes were doing a project on animal homes (habitats). The students discuss the methods and resources that were available to use for this project, and selected a method. They also discussed what research was, how they would do, and how they can present it. As a result the students, used World Book Online to listen to information about animal homes. They then drew a picture of their animal's home and explained the parts of it to the class.
The with grade used the Big6 to research battles and events of the Revolutionary war. The students began by defining what was expected. They decided what information would be necessary to incorporate for each task. Then the students determined the sources they would use to find the information. The students researched their topics and took notes. The students used Google Docs to type up and organized document of the information in their own words, with a works cited page (easy bib). Finally the class created a Google Tour using Tour Builder. The result was an interactive presentation of the events of the Revolutionary war presented in chronological order that also showed where each event was geographically.
