List of Artworks
- Romeo & Juliet
- Fur elise
- The Parthenon
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
- Oedipus Rex
- Time Machine
- Mona Lisa
- Flight of the Bumblebee
- Cyberpunk 2077

We define the theme “grounded flight” with a definition most befitting its value in the art world. It simply refers to art held to an overly high standard than it actually deserves. We have chosen art that is both popular and beloved as classics to the general population. Even modern media such as Cyberpunk 2077 may be considered as a classic, as people may justify it as a modern classic. All of the art pieces listed above can be classified as what we deem, “overrated garbage.” Such art pieces are deserving of such an oxymoronic, or rather, simply moronic, theme. While all art pieces may hold some merit, these in particular have overstayed their welcome.

- An Experiment on A Bird In the Air Pump
- The Parthenon
- Trip to The Moon
- Romeo and Juliet
- A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
- Wrapped Reichstag
- Martin Luther King's Speech "I have a dream"
- Philippine National Anthem
- Inception (Film)

We see the theme "Grounded Flight" in two different ways. First, is an interpretation of these artworks as those presenting "what could have been." This is present in the artworks such as Romeo and Juliet and the Parthenon. Flight is perceived as greatness - a process wherein one can fly above and reach heights that people have never reached before. However, since this flight is grounded, this process no longer occurs and leaves people to question what could have happened. Similarly, readers question what would have happened if the love between Romeo and Juliet worked out, or how the Parthenon would be if it explosions did not destroy it. The second interpretation would be of greatness on earth, where humans have achieved great things here on earth. This is seen in the works of the Trip to the Moon (technological advancement), the Wrapped Reichstag (a symbol of peace and freedom made possible by human actions), A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (Feminism and Gender Equality), the "I have a Dream" speech (racial equality and civil rights), the Philippine Anthem (an expression of progress and development in the founding of a free nation) and An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump (industrial revolution and enlightenment). All of these symbolize feats in the history of mankind and the development of a human society that has allowed these things to occur.

In fact, it may seem that “grounded flight” cannot possibly exist, since the words contradict each other. However, we see the term “grounded flight” as a representation of absurdity, of bizarre situations, and abstract ideas that cannot possibly be made real. It is in these artworks that we chose that it is possible to catch a glimpse of things that couldn’t possibly occur in real life, and that is what makes them incredible. We chose art that falls under three categories of absurdities. The first category we have identified pertains to absurdity within the situations/circumstances. The second category pertains to fiction that is inherently absurd. Lastly, the third category talks on the abstractions that make no sense.
