I think that this would be a great venue to hold our screening of the documentary. Is is in the process of being made and would be held at Cottesloe beach. Cottesloe beach is a great venue as it is right on the beach and the beach is a great attraction for the youth. As this doco is about youth and the drug abuse among youth then I think an outdoor cinema at a beach would be the best place to hold it. - Riley

Drugs Use Documentary

The documentary about raising the awareness of drugs use amongst youths, would include

- types of different drugs,

- what kind of effects they have on the user - their actions, thoughts in a variety of situations

- problems that could result from frequent drugs use

- how it can affect other people around the user, especially family and friends

- how youths might get introduced to drugs in the first place, what drives them to keep taking it

- include messages from professionals about where to go, how to get better for active users

This will follow the lives of youths from frequent to non-drugs users.

Hello group I think that maybe either of these venues would be a more preferable option because they are centrally located and easily accessible via train and I also believe that the target demographic is more likely to be situated/drawn to these areas.

Olivia was a popular young girl, that was driven to the ground by online bullying. She ended up taking her life in 2012. Focusing on youth and youth suicide and mental health is so relevant and so many young people are taking their lives, or self harming. The documentary could maybe follow the life of Olivia and other young people, and show their struggles through the use of archival footage and renactments. Focusing on one person or a small group of people could really hit home to some young individuals. - Riley

This website provides the youth to important questions that they need to ask themselves about how drugs are impacting their lives. I think focusing on these questions or maybe answering these questions in the documentary or even around the place to promote the release of the documentary would be helpful. The Ben and Jerry's cinema is a good location but if we make the event free, we would have to find a method of restricting attendance numbers somehow as they supply their own seating. If we charge for tickets we can use a method such as donating proceeds to drug use prevention foundations and so on. Also, if we provide food (such as food trucks), the publicity is very good for those food companies

The event can be marketed through journalism means. Publicity for the event can also be garnered through news articles for big and independent news outlets. The articles can focus on the drug epidemics in Perth and using quotes from experts and Police officers. Large article pieces in platforms such as 'Sundays Times' lift outs are effective for reaching wide demographics of Australians. Articles can be included in the arts and film sections, utilising pre screening reviews, opinion pieces interviewing experts and police officers on the drug epidemic and letting readers know about screening times to increase attendance numbers.

As a Digital Design student what I can contribute is to create a 30 second animation skit that promotes our outdoor cinema event. This can then be shared through social media such as Twitter or Facebook to gain more people to come to our event. The animation can simply promote the outdoor cinema event or add factors such as a short plot or in other words emphasizing the effects of drugs on a user’s well being and the people around them. This can also be played as a teaser before our main documentary starts playing.

For this project I will be having a large scale interaction with people through some of social networking’s most popular forms such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and Snapchat to raise awareness about the event. Social media can give content providers a useful and effective way to convey their messages and ideas but since they are filled with a vast amount of what seems like endless amounts of different pages and events our own event may get swept amongst the tide. To stand out my skills will be further honed to make sure the content of our social media pages is creative, unique and interesting. I will be using my skills in Creative Writing to provide content is a variety of engaging ways such as haiku, poetry, scripted dialogues, short stories, autoethnographies, and to complement images such as the use of memes. Through a large variety different types of writing the chances of gaining the attention of a person from our targeted audience will greatly improve and they will be more likely to attend our event and view the relevant information about drug awareness that will be included on our page.

The ultimate purpose of having a website in relation to the event is to relay information that is not included in a short promotion ad, poster or a public Facebook event. The website can include the typical additional information such as what the event is about, the location and the date of the event. Other information can also be included such as statistics about the effects of abusing drugs. Another set of information that can be included in the website are contact details of Organizations that can help or provide support to those who are willing to quit or need guidance in quitting drug usage.

I feel as though asking the Drug and Alcohol office of the Government of Western Australia to sponsor our event. This office will most likely be happy to sponsor our event as they already provide free counseling for treatment of drug and alcohol abuse amongst young people. The department is located in Perth and therefore it is relevant and local to our target demographic. Both their financial and community support will allow our project to be a larger and more effective event and I feel as though their long term involvement in this specific topic will allow us to find contacts relevant to the issue of youth drug abuse.

Since the event is planned to be held during Mental Health Week, I plan to create a website that closely correlate with the government website of Mental Health Commission. Their main colour scheme includes the colour blue which is due to the fact that blue is believed to soothe illness and treat pain, which I also plan to use as the main colour of the website along with additional cool colours such as green, sky blue and purple. The interface and layout of the website design will be similar to Mental Health Foundation of Australia (Victoria) and WAAHM (Western Australian Association for Mental Health). I have chosen these sites to refer to because of the simplicity of the design of their sites, which is what I am also after.
