This argument about the impact of social media relates to my life in the same way that it does to everyone else. Everything I see on the internet or social media is placed there on purpose to keep me on the internet and to keep me scrolling. The fact that the information I see on my social media is put there on purpose causes me to stay on my phone for really long periods of times and it also causes me to think differently about reality. This trailer emphasizes connection by showing us how humans are more connected than ever through social media, and it also emphasizes fragmentation because it shows us how we fragment the time we spend with others and also how we perceive information.

The benefits of a system that detects and recognizes faces include technological development, better security and being able to identify people faster. The drawbacks include racial and gender bias and also hyper surveillance. Ethical problems that might arise with misidentifying certain faces include racial and gender bias, which leads to minorities and women not getting equal products. An algorithm machine can't be neutral because most of the data pool that algorithms go off of are comprised of white men and this causes a bias in gender and race. I don't like the thought of giving up my face and data because it seems like a violation of privacy and I won't be able to gain access to a large pool of information as a result. Opportunities that exist for creating a more just society include eliminating racial and gender biases with products that are developed using data.

Something that is missing from this list includes how technology has been growing faster than humans have been evolving, and this presents a problem because technology might be growing too fast for us to keep up with. I feel like the idea that most people in tech want to good shouldn't be on the list because a large amount of people in tech are hired to make money and gain profit. This fiscal incentive is known by most people in tech, and most people in tech can't want to good if this incentive exists. I strongly agree with how there are no ethical requirements and teachings associated with technology, this makes sense because technology is relatively new in human history and there hasn't been enough time to develop ethical teachings of technology.

I reacted to the examples of bias throughout science-history in a negative way. Even though this is an issue that needs to be addressed seriously, I was not surprised because this kind of bias has been seen throughout human history. Tech/science plays a role in creating injustice when inaccurate and biased data pools are used to develop new technologies, and this creates bias among products that rely on this data. Tech/science can first acknowledge the bias within data that is used to develop technologies, and then use this information to gather more inclusive and diverse data pools.
