Free School Meal Allowance - Change to how you must use this allowance 

From Monday 6th July, pupils in receipt of free school meal allowances will only be able to access their allocation during lunch time for a full meal deal - you won't be able to use this allocation for snacks/drinks at break time. 

For those who like to eat lunch earlier at breaktime, you will be able to purchase a sandwich meal deal at the sandwich counters in McBrunts and at Dalton Dinner - you must use the allocation for all three items to get you the best deal!

17th July: Year 10 Sixth Form Tester Day

20th July: Culture Day

22nd July: Sports Day

23rd July: Rewards Trips

24th July: Students break up for Summer Holiday at 12.20pm

13th August: A-level Results Day from 8-9am (clearing students only) and 9-10am for all other students

20th August: GCSE Results Day from 9am-1pm

2nd September: Years 7, 11, and 12 return only

3rd September: All other years return

Last Week of Term

We have worked hard to organise what we hope will be a very exciting final week of term for our pupils. The following outlines the events taking place, alongside the specific timings for our Rewards Trips Day (see image above).

Tuesday 21st July – Rewards Assemblies

Each year group will have a designated slot during the day to celebrate achievements and receive awards.

Wednesday 22nd July – Sports Day

A fun-filled day of competition and participation, with a focus on countries from around the world to bring everyone together for a carnival-style event. There will be something for everyone to enjoy, whether participating or spectating. Pupils may wear their PE kit on this day.

Thursday 23rd July – Rewards Trips

A number of reward trips will take place throughout the day. Pupils remaining on site will also enjoy a range of exciting activities and events.

Friday 24th July – Last Day of Term

All pupils will leave the academy at 12.20pm following their morning lessons. From 11.20am to 12.20pm, pupils will take part in a whole-academy quiz to round off the year. This proved hugely popular last year, particularly given how competitive our tutor groups can be!

September Return Arrangements

Following our INSET Day on 1st September, pupils will return to the academy on a staggered basis as follows:

Wednesday 2nd September

• Year 7

• Year 11

• Year 12

Thursday 3rd September

Equipment for Learning and Independent Learning

In September, we will be launching a new strategy to strengthen independent learning opportunities for our pupils. This will include a more structured approach to setting independent learning tasks and a clearer process for submitting completed work. We believe these changes will support pupils to make stronger progress, retain more of what they learn and feel increasingly confident when completing assessments.

Alongside this, we are introducing a prescribed equipment list to ensure every pupil has the essential resources needed to be successful in their learning at Brunts Academy.

Compulsory Items:

• Pens – black or blue for classwork and green for improvement tasks

• Pencil

• Ruler

• Rubber

• Highlighter

• Rucksack or satchel (handbags no longer permitted) large enough to carry Independent Learning folders and PE kit

Optional Items:

• Scientific calculator – pupils benefit from having their own calculator that they can practise with and become familiar using

• Whiteboard pen

  
  

We will share further information about both of these initiatives through a recorded presentation, ensuring you have everything you need to support your child in preparing for the new academic year.

The standard was exceptionally high this year and we were so honoured to taste our students’ dishes and hear the stories behind why they had chosen them.

Congratulations to Fraiser for taking the top spot this year, and to our runners up Shalom and Max who came second and third.

Every single competitor who took part today should be very proud.

It was wonderful to see everyone dressed to impress, making memories with friends, laughing, dancing, and celebrating everything they have achieved over the past five years. You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves and of how far you have come.

This competition was organised and created entirely by Carmen in Year 8. Carmen created and printed out 'story starters' for students to choose at random. Their task was to finish the story off. Darcy picked 'Out of nowhere, a shadow appeared...' and finished her story in chilling style.

Darcy received a chocolate treat and a pass to the Secret Library for the rest of the term. Well done also to our runners-up, Faith A and Jessica C (Year 7). We clearly have some talented writers in this year group!

Darcy's story will appear in this term's edition of The Griffin newspaper.

A special thank you to Deputy Lieutenant Davenport and Councillor Jackson for presenting our Special Recognition Awards and helping to make the evening such a memorable occasion.

We want all pupils to enjoy these occasions while ensuring that clothing remains suitable for a school environment, please support your child in choosing outfits that are:

• Comfortable and appropriate for a day of learning and activities.

• Suitable for the weather conditions.

• Respectful and appropriate for a secondary school setting. (no cropped tops, shorts/skirts must be just above knee height - mid thigh length and above are not appropriate for school) 

• Free from offensive language, slogans, images, or messages.

• Safe for movement around school (e.g. suitable footwear for breaktimes and lessons).

Whilst pupils are not required to wear school uniform on these days, clothing should still reflect the standards and values of our school community. If a pupil arrives wearing clothing that we deem inappropriate for school, we may contact home and ask that alternative clothing is provided.
