The Very Hungry Ms. Yupangco-- as I tell my students :)

Hello everyone! My name is Jennifer Yupangco. It is my 11th year teaching with the district. I teach Early Childhood Inclusion at Jack Dailey Elementary School. I am taking up a few classes at NSC to complete my endorsement for Developmentally Delayed. My favorite book of all time is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. To me, being a teacher and a learner goes hand in hand. A teacher has to keep learning whether it is new trends in education, new ideas, new books to read, new curriculum and new students-- their personality, strengths and weaknesses. This book captures my journey in education as a teacher and a learner, it gets overwhelming at times (like when he just kept eating and eating and ended up with a stomachache) but at the end of the day, we have to remember that we go through highs and lows but our journey always leads to something beautiful, like our students become their best versions of who they are because of us and vice versa. I cannot wait to see everyone's post. :)

My name is Lindsey Robbins. I graduated in 2002 with my degree in Elementary Education, and I am now pursuing my endorsement for Early Childhood. I previously taught K, 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade. I am now in my second year in Pre-K and I am loving it! it is my favorite grade to teach so far. This book relates to me this semester because I am worried about finding the time to do everything that is expected of me. I am teaching full time, taking 2 college courses, and have 4 kids of my own to take care of! In the end of Wemberly Worried, everything works out. I imagine that everything will work out for me too!

Hello :) My name is Sarah Cuison. This is my 18th year teaching in CCSD. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade and been an ELL Reading Center Project Facilitator. This is my first year teaching Early Childhood Inclusion at Givens ES. I am in my 2nd semester of taking classes at NSC to get my Early Childhood Inclusion Endorsement, because I would love to continue teaching Pre-K! One of my favorite books of all times is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. I can relate to this book as both a learner and a teacher, because I love learning and teaching "hands on." It's so fun to sing along and dance to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and a great book for learning the letters of the alphabet too.

My name is Mary Durham. I am going into my 5th year of special education, but my first year of early childhood special education and I love it. The book I picked is because the kids are so enthralled with the snow right now as we are literally covered in it. We talk about all the footprints we can make and how the snow can "plop" on our heads. I love how the students make me laugh and are always so welcoming at the preschool. I service 5 preschools in our district and I wouldn't change a thing. I just want to keep learning more and more. I just keep coming back to early intervention is so important, but we can't do it without each other. The service providers, pre school staff, parents....we are all a team.

Hello everyone! I'm Ashley Buttle and this is my 14th year in CCSD. I have taught 2nd grade for 2 years, 10 years in Kindergarten, and this is now my second year in early childhood and I love it! I am taking this class to start earning credits needed for my endorsement. I have a Master of Arts in teaching and a bachelor's degree in Psychology. Mo Willems is one of my favorite children's authors. I chose this book for both reasons because I have to go to school to stay in my current position and earn my endorsement, and my students also have to go to school. Just like the pigeon, it is sometimes something we may not necessarily want to do, but once we show up, we begin to enjoy the process and all that we can learn along the way!

I have been teaching for 11 years, 7 of those years in special education, but this is my first in early childhood and I am really loving it! I am completing the Early Childhood endorsement for my license (and hopefully a pay increase :P). My favorite children's book is Pete the Cat I love my White Shoes. Pete the Cat is such a fun series for the students. In this story, mishaps keep happening with his shoes and he just keeps walking along and singing. I love being able to teach my students (and remind myself) that things may happen but it is all about perspective.

I began my teaching career in California and then moved here to Vegas. I first began teaching at Bright Horizons and then applied to CCSD. I taught Kindergarten at Detwiler for 5 years and this is my third year in Early Childhood Inclusion at Tobler. I am taking my last and final class to obtain my Early Childhood Special Education endorsement.
It Could Have Been Worse is a book I fell in love with from the first time I read it. I think many of us can relate to it. The challenges that mouse encounters and overcomes as he pushes through reminds me to never give up and to keep trying and moving forward. In the last 7 months I had some challenging changes and I wake up everyday and complete each day to my best!!

I have taught kindergarten and ECI in CCSD and I am working toward an early childhood certification.

Who knew that choosing just one book to represent me as a learner and a teacher would be so difficult? After considering The Good Egg and The Only One Club, I chose the book Gaston, a story about a bulldog who is part of a prim and proper family of poodles. He attempts to join a bulldog family, but it just doesn’t feel right. Even though Gaston doesn’t look like the others, he has a sense of belonging when he is with his own family. Gaston is not only a fun book to read aloud, but it also reminds us that we do not all have to be alike to belong. As both a learner and a teacher, I have come to recognize the importance of being myself and not trying to be like others, which is an essential skill to teach and instill in young children. Being your unique self is always best!

The book that represents me as a learner and a teacher is “Be Who You Are” by Todd Parr. It was hard to select a book that represents me as a learner/teacher, however, I think this book really represents me in so many ways because it really embraces everyone's differences. This book shows how it is okay to be who you are inside regardless of what anyone else thinks. I always like to teach my students to be proud of who they are and to accept others' differences. I absolutely can’t get through the book without crying. In the story, the teacher, Mr. Falker notices that his student is struggling in school, specifically with reading. He begins to spend extra time working with her and eventually is able to teach her to read and grow to love reading. My “Mr. Falker" went by the name of Ms. Partridge. I have recently transfered to NSC from CSN in hopes of finishing my Bachelors degree. Past experiences in the field consist of internships, practicums, and volunteer work. I have been in an inclusive preschool classroom for an internship that I had in high school. My practicum at CSN was completed in a toddler classroom on campus. Currently, I volunteer in a kindergarten classroom at my local elementary school. All 3 classrooms differ from one another and I am grateful that I have been able to gain these experiences.

I chose "Mix It Up" as my favorite children's book because it is just so fun. I was introduced to this book during my practicum at CSN. The kids absolutley loved reading the book and I felt the same. This book reflects the way I am as a teacher and learner because of the way that it is engaging. As a learner, I love being engaged in activities and actually doing something that is not basic school work. As a teacher, I strive to be a teacher that introduces new ideas to the classroom. Allowing for hands on activities that will allow children to further their experiences in the classroom. Even though the title refers to mixing colors, Id like to say that it is the exact way I think about a classroom, just "Mix It Up".

My name is Norma Spendlove and I am currently teaching for CCSD in an ECSE classroom. This is the second class that I have taken to work towards earning my Early Childhood Special Education Endorsement. I have taught for 16 years...but not all of those years are in a row. I was able to work from home for some of those years in order to be with my children who were both having some health problems so now I am an "older" teacher. I am happy to be back teaching and am enjoying my time working with my students. As many of you know, teaching is a tough job. It is a job that never seems to end. (Is anyone else carrying home that heavy teacher bag at the end of the day to continue their work?) Nevertheless, teaching is so very rewarding and fun at the same time! For those of you that are newer to teaching, just keep working hard, loving your students and staying kind and positive. I have learned that it sometimes takes YEARS to see how your kindness, support and hard work as a dedicated teacher have helped a child.
Now, on to this fun assignment...I LOVE children's books! I love this book in particular because it is creative, interactive, imaginative and very fun to read to children. In many ways, I feel this is the kind of teacher I want to be for my students. I want to be creative, imaginative, fun, and I want my lessons to be very interactive. I want my students to have fun while learning, I want them to interact with each other and the class curriculum, and to always stay creative and imaginative as they grow up. I hope you get a chance to read this book to your class and that you will enjoy it as much as I do!

Hello!
My name is Lisa Whitney. I have taught special education for 14 years. The first 10 in resource and the last 4 in the KIDS program. I finished my autism endorsement and thought I would continue to pursue my Early Childhood Special Education endorsement. The book I chose is If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. I chose it because one event leads to another. The same is true with teaching and in my learning. In my classroom once my students meet a goal we move on to another goal. Their goals and benchmarks build on each other, the same way the mouse's requests continue to build on each other. Also, once I completed my autism endorsement I chose to build and expand my knowledge to obtain a second endorsement.

(I had technical difficulties on this forum on my computer at work so this is the continuation)

I chose Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do You See because kids of all ages and skills levels can recognize the pattern and pretend-read and with the pictures, it aides comprehension. Having been an ELL student myself, I can appreciate the simplicity and engagement of his books.

I've learned that I love children's books because in many ways, my heart is that of one and that is why I teach Early Childhood and love it!

Hi my name is Caroline. I am a substitute teacher in a vacancy position. I have a second-grade class. This is my third year of college and I am hoping to graduate in 2024 with the Early childhood education and early childhood special education degree. A book I relate to is Charlotte's Web because I love the bond the main characters have. I think it is important to bond with your students and have a positive relationship. this story is about not giving up and I want to inspire my students to feel that way.
