Present:

situation - is life in the dark shadow of the thick wall. He feels defeated, unable to function. All he is able to do is ‘lie down in the shadow”, as he is blocked off from light and reaching his dream.

Future:

His future plan is to fight against the wall and do everything he can – tobreak the wall, shatter this darkness, smash this night and reach the light,consequently, he can fulfill not only his childhood dreams, but also fight for many others in order to achieve justice for them as well.

He sadly mentions, that he has almost forgotten it .

As a child, he was unaware of the cruelty of the world and his innocent optimism dared to dream of achieving what he wants.

Present:

As Langston Hughes grew older, he realized that because of the prejudice, racism and discrimination, his opportunities were limited and he was blocked from being able to achieve his dreams.

Langston Completely aware what the real reason is of preventing him to reach his dream.

Future:

In the present, Langston Hughes wants to smash the darkness with his black hands for better Future.  Langston explains in his poem that his hand is like a "tool", and he believes that if he will give a command to his black ' strong hands to break the wall of racism
