         <description><![CDATA[<div>We focus on just 5 learner profile traits for our 3-5 year olds and we give them ownership over recognizing these traits in themselves and each other.&nbsp; When these traits are observed the students get to go "surfing" on that profile trait wave and it serves as a great visual for the students.  They get so motivated to be "caught" being caring or risk-takers and are slowly learning the vocabulary and using it in their interactions at school and at home.</div>]]></description>

Students take turn to bring a guessing bag home and during morning meeting, students bring one item that starts with the letter of the week in their guessing bags with three clues. They give out one clue at a time and let their peers guess what the item is :)</div>]]></description>

Students work together to create a problem solving wheel that stays up throughout the whole year. It helps them to make choices independently (agency) and promotes social/communication skills. It also helps to promote a sense of community and relationship building.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Community Circle</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As part of our social-emotional program, RULER, we have a daily Community Circle.&nbsp;<br><br>We ask the children a question and each child has an opportunity to answer the question, but is not obligated to. There is a "talking stick" and only the person holding the talking stick gets to speak. The teacher does not respond to the children's responses.<br><br>Community Circle helps...<br>- Children learn to actively listen to one another<br>- Children feel like they can participate without judgment<br>- Practice speaking in a group<br><br>We do this everyday. It takes two minutes. Sometimes we ask questions like, what did you do on the weekend? Other times we use it to ask questions about what we have been learning (kind of an "assessment").<br><br>We have noticed that ALL of the children benefit from Community Circle. Children who would NEVER speak up during a lesson or circle time always participate in Community Circle and do so with ease and confidence!</div>]]></description>

         <title>Class Tree</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One of the things the K classes do at our school is monthly observations of a class tree. This is a start at working on their observation skills.<br><br>This tree is about a 5 minute walk from our city school with a playground and some natural elements. They love their tree and they get to see the changes over the course of the year. In the winter months they are not to many changes, but they do notice when the buds start to come out.<br><br>Over the year their drawing and writing, (scribed and on their own depending on their skill set) gets more detailed and their observation skills get more sophisticated. This is a park that we go to all the time, and they also start pointing out any changes they start to see during playtime.<br><br>-Gwen</div>]]></description>
