Discourse (dominant) arise out of certain other marginal competing discourses; it is an object formulated in a discursive field. What can be said must take on the attributes of what is necessary within the discourse, or else it would not make sense at all. The discourse doesn't "dominate" the speaker, it allows the speaker to speak in the first place. Similarly, a statement can only take on an enunciative function given that it is apart of a discourse field; of a field or relevancies. Within the discourse itself, some will emerge as the dominant speech, whilst the rest will be excluded.
