Her parents called her Sophie. She lived in Australia, which she loved because she could enjoyed being at the beach and to draw with sticks she found around.

Sophie was so talented and apasionated about drawing, that one date she decided she would study Design, which she finished in 1992 and even wtih honors!  

Later on, she decided to do what she loved: painting. So, she spent some years painting robotic characters for theme parks, proving the hands for a DIY television and even writing a household hints column. She was so happy with her life, that nobody could talk about Sophie without mentioning her gift of drawing in  such a splendid way. 

Then, one day she decided to exhibit some of her paintings, but she had so much success that she had more than one exhibitions in differents galleries and even in different places like Sydney and Melbourne. She couldn't believe what her life was becoming in! It was all about doing what she loves the most, and everyone was loving it too. 

One confusing day, Sophie woke up feeling different. It was like if she wouldn't want to be there anymore. She had lived in Australia her whole life and she was ready to jump out of that place to meet new people and in a different place. So, she searched and found New York, one of the most beautiful and famous cities in USA. At the begining she was afraid of making a mistake, but after she remembered her painting talent and it was all what she needed to be happy not matter where. 

Fortunately, she had so much success in Brooklyn, New York. That  for the past ten years,

In 2000, Blackall was seduced by New York. She has lived and worked in Brooklyn for the past ten years. Her editorial illustrations have appeared in many publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, Architectural Digest, Town and Country, Vogue and Gourmet, and she has animated nine tv commercials for the UK.
In 2002 she illustrated the children’s book, Ruby's Wish by Shirin Yim Bridges (Chronicle Books), which won the Ezra Jack Keats award in 2003.
Since then, she has illustrated seventeen other books for children including Meet Wild Boars by Meg Rosoff (Henry Holt & Co) which won the Society of Illustrators Founders Award, and the Ivy and Bean series by Annie Barrows (Chronicle Books).
Blackall also works in three dimensions and her mixed media sculptures made from Victorian doll parts, glove fingers and vintage taxidermy are currently on show in Paris at Galerie Epoca.
Over the past year she has collaborated with the pop star Mika on a number of visual pieces, including an anthology of paintings to accompany songs (alongside Paul Smith and Peter Blake among others), and an ambitious series of images for his latest album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, and world wide tour.
Her recent and ongoing project, Missed Connections, is gathering media attention around the world, and will be published as a book in 2012.
