At the center of us exists a spark of creation, a space and place of deep and abiding knowing. In the wintering of our lives, may we all remain in contact with that truth of our being. With the immensity of that knowing. And when we struggle and suffer to feel, to know and connect with this, may we all be reminded by those who surround us that life is a beautiful, truly beautiful and remarkable, act of creation.

Spring bursts forth from the belly of winter. Without the winter before, new growth would not be possible. Someone once told me that grief is a great transformer; we never exit grief as the same person who entered into it. I loved that. It felt like a certain endless hope could be held in tandem with the heaviness of loss(es). Although it can feel like the winter of a soul can last forever, its bitter cold piercing, eventually the thawing comes and life once again pulses forward. Can we honor it all?

Grief, depression, sorrow, anguish. The fall of our hearts, the contraction of what is meaningful, important and valued in our lives. As we exist, we often forget that every moment in life is a death; it will never come to pass again or be exactly the same. We are never the same in each passing moment. We move through life changed by experience, our bodies always moving towards an ending. And as we move on the continuum, we shed much like the leaves of a tree in the fall. Dropping what is no longer necessary to carry and making room for what is to come.

They are what define us, connect us, and act as threads that engender community and connection. Much like the fungus on a forest floor, they thread all the trees together. In community, we discover ourselves just as much as we share ourselves. We matter, each and everyone of us. Those who came before and those who will come after. May we always remember, in the midst of all the joy and the weight, that we are connected through a web of incredible souls standing tall because we know we are bound with the heart of our service and the core of our work. May each of us be seen for the unique essence, expression and essential nature of who we are and what gifts we bestow.
