Field Investigation of Plant Quantity and Diversity by Jane Smith Palliser

Dear students, in this activity, you will choose one site from the park to study. You will observe how much plant cover is associated. You will also observe how many different species of plants are present at a site. Try to identify their names and characteristics, ask the guide. You will use the data you collect to draw conclusions about what types of external influences may affect plant quantity and diversity. Record your observations here including pictures, videos and audios. Have a great job!

In species #7, there 1 plant, and in species #8 there were about 3 plants. It was about 40% covered in plants. We saw some creeping stems, some aerial stems and some underground stems. From what we saw, the plants in our square were very well preserved since we couldn't see any human impact.

Humans are now responsible for causing changes in the environment that hurt animals and plant species. We take up more space on Earth for our homes and cities. We pollute habitats. We illegally hunt and kill animals. We bring exotic species into habitats. All of these activities take resources and habitats away from plants and animals.
Human activity often changes or destroys the habitats that plants and animals need to survive. Because human populations are growing so fast animals and plants are disappearing 1000 times faster than they have in the past 65 million years. Scientists estimate that in the 21st century 100 species will become extinct every day.
