Theme or Thesis Statement

The importance of memory.
I chose this thesis statement because the community made only one person bear all of the memories. This put stress, pain, and little concentration to that person. Every person has different beliefs on a subject, and it is important to have multiple inputs on large decisions. Everyone in the community should have some memory of the past, so they can understand what their past was like, and how to avoid certain problems.

1. The Giver is speculated to be 50 years in the future. After reading the book and seeing some of the details and measurements humans had to go to during their time, their reality could very possibly be semi close to ours in the future. One measure they had to do was climate control.
2. The Giver's society "Releases" anyone who breaks rules, is born without good genes, or requests to. However, Jonas later finds out that Releasing people is lethal injection which is something we do today.
3. Their punishment of lethal injection means that they have a population overflow, similar to what we have today. Will we have so many humans that we result to killing imperfect humans?
