The Quran was revealed in an arrangement format through Allah to the Prophet PBUH. It was a spoken message. Angel Jibrael delivered the messages between them. The arrangement was decided by Allah, some Surahs were arranged according to events or objects occurring.

2. In the month of Ramadhan, The prophet would recite the entire Holy Quran once before angel jibrael, but on his last month, he recited it twice. This caused fear in others hearts since they thought the holy Prophet would die, which proved to be correct.

2 During 23 years of Muhammad's time as a prophet, every time Angel Gabriel came to the Prophet (S.A.W) with a new revelation, he told him  its exact position in the surah tom which it belong.  After muhammad's death in 632 CE, his friend Abu bakr was named as caliph and ruler of Islamic community, or Ummah. The death of Prophet (S.A.W) effect the young Muslim federation known as Apostasy or Ridda wars effectively consolidated Arabia into a single country 
under Muslim control within two years.

3 The verses of Quran were memorized as they were revealed, and about 42 scrbes wrote the Quran verses on different materials such as paper, cloth, bone fragment and leather. According to the history of the compilation of the Quran, the Prophet (s) himself chose the verses where to be placed. It was not the companions who arranged the verses or the number of the chapters.
