The lyrics use many appeals throughout the lyrics saying that he loves Delilah and nothing will change. The video used a lot of the same appeals to confirm that the distance is only for a little bit but nothing will change how he feels. Overall, we can not know if Higgenson is effective or not because the lyrics or video does not give any in sight on how Delilah feels. In comparison, the background information shows that Delilah is not interested and the relationship never worked out or started. So, I would say the song is in effective to its audience.

Hey There Delilah was written by Tom Higgenson, guitarist and front man for the band Plain White T's, for a girl named Delilah DiCrescenzo (Hey There Delilah). They met through a mutual friend and Tom was inspired to write a song about her. Tom and Delilah never dated. Delilah was actually dating someone at the time they met and when the song was released (Hart). We can only assume that Tom had thought the song would win her over. Delilah was a cross-country runner at Columbia University in New York City. Which is where Delilah from New York City comes into play in the song. In the song the speaker is Delilah's boyfriend, Tom, but as we know from the background information that was never actually a thing. Tom is writing a song to tell her that soon the relationship won’t be a long-distance relationship and that the world has never seen love this powerful. Delilah was the intended audience and the purpose is to tell Delilah how a long-distance relationship is hard but he is reassuring her nothing is going to happen. The subject is long-distance relationships and the tone of the song is sad/somber.

Lyric Analysis- Logos

Logos in finding the logic in the lyrics. I thought that "Hey There Delilah" had some clever word plays. An example of logos would be "Two more years and you'll be

done with school". It uses the logic that Delilah is away at school while the boyfriend is many miles away at home. From the background information we know that Higgenson was never actually her boyfriend. The second example of logos would be the lyric saying "Someday I'll pay the bills with this

guitar". The speaker in this song is a musician that believes they are going to make it big or are already. The third lyric example states, "What's it like in New York city?

I'm a thousand miles away". The writer is wondering how Delilah is doing and that is very far away from her. The song is using logos by giving us the logic of the story. The story is that Delilah and her boyfriend are doing long-distance while she is away at school. Her boyfriend wrote her this song so she knows he will always be there for her.

Pathos deals with emotion. "Hey There Delilah" is a sad and somber song that hey boyfriend made for Delilah. In the song, Higgenson uses example of pathos in lyrics. Some examples include, "You'll know it's all because of you", "I'm right there if you get lonely

Give this song another listen", and "I'd walk to you if I had no other way". All examples refer to almost the same meaning. Higgenson will be there for Delilah no matter the distance or what he has to do. To him Delilah isn't just another girl in the world, she is his world.

Ethos shows credibility and characteristics. The song is Delilah's boyfriend dedicating his love to her. The song tells a lot about the personality of Higgenson and of Delilah. Higgenson writes, "Time square can't shine as bright as you". The lyric is saying that Delilah is very bright while comparing her to Time Square. He is using it as a reference since she lives in New York City. The second example represents their love. "Our friends would all make fun of us

And we'll just laugh along because we know/ That none of them have felt this way", the lyric is straight forward by saying they are in love and their friends don’t understand that because they have never felt that. Lastly, "The world will never ever be the same". The world would be completely different without Delilah. Meaning she is his world, and he is completely dedicated to her.
