Showing how Frederick Douglass knows that kids don't have clothes and almost naked. These kids work, so imagine working almost naked and, not getting paid. This also shows how slave owners don't care for the condition of their slaves. Another detail is "Colonel Lloyd kept from three to four hundred slaves on his home plantation, and owned a large number more on the neighboring farms belongings to him." This detail shows how Frederick Douglass's master was not only a slave master but, he owned three to four hundred slaves!
