When Coach revealed that he grew up in Ghost's neighborhood too he said words that stick with me to this day, "It's not about about what you're running from, but what you're running towards." What this means to me is that so many of us don't come from perfect homes and want more than what we are born into and as long as you keep striving for better and pushing yourself towards your goals than one day you'll get there. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it :)

Jason Reynolds is famous for saying that he didn't read his first novel until he was 17. Growing up, Reynolds felt like kids that looked like him and had experiences similar to his were not represented in books, and thus he could not connect with book and didn't want to read. I love the way Reynolds wrote the main character in Ghost, Castle Crenshaw, especially the dialogue Reynolds uses to make Ghost relatable. He sounds like a regular kid. He uses slang, cracks jokes, even uses a curse word here and there... Ghost is so fun to read because looks, sounds, and lives like regular kids all of the the country.

Booked is an amazing book that really deserves some praise. It is 300+ pages long, and the author Kwame Alexander also wrote the Newbery Medal winner Crossover. In this book Nick is part of a soccer club. His best friend Coby is in a separate club and both clubs are going to the Dallas Cup. Also his crush April starts to like him and his dad is making him read the dictionary. But right before he goes he gets hurt, as shown in this quote. “Sideways, to the ground, EEE-YOW! Your ankle POPS! Your stomach EXPLODES! KNOCK.OUT.” What will happen with April? Will he go to the cup? Read to find out.
If you like sports, you should really read this book. It is exploding with suspense. This is an excellent book, but in my opinion it's not as good as Crossover. This is because the story line isn't as easy to follow. But the message is all about redemption and overcoming obstacles to get back on track. I think that this book should be read by 11-15 year old because there are some words that younger kids won't get. It is also a long book so most young readers shouldn’t read this. The genre is realistic fiction even though it is in a poetry form for the book. Kirk's reviews said, ”The soccer scenes are vivid and will make readers wish for more….” You should read this book; it is extraordinary.

I enjoyed The Crossover it was very, easy to read. Kwame Alexander did a great job with the poetry, and the story. It really made the book feel fun. I finished the book in about 2 days since it really isn't hard to read, this book is great probably one of my favorites, and definitely my favorite book this year. The author is great he does a fabulous job with his story, and his choice of words. Its just an amazing book and overall the best that I have read this year, and definitely deserves that New berry Medal.
