Pictured is first light drawing over the Nottingham canal path. I took this photo whilst on my morning run. I love the hazy smoke flowing out of the longboat and glistening of the mornings glare on the water. For me, the early morning gives me a sense of tranquillity and perspective. Living in the city centre, without much green space, nature is not effortlessly accessible. I wanted to share this photo, to show that even when you are surrounded by buildings, you can still experience the beauty of the great outdoors (you just might have to get out of bed a bit earlier!).

Snowman at Highfields

This picture was taken on Sunday, 24th of January 2021. Apparently that day was also my birthday hence I feel like this snowy day is such a gift from God to me. This was taken at the Highfields Park and the snow is so thick. I had a great time playing the snow with my housemates. I put a little heart-shaped snow there near to the snowman that we built together just to give some love and warm feeling to other people who had a chance to see this snowman which we built on that day.

I hope this picture somehow reminds you how nice it is to have fun outside for a while (but still! with proper measurements) and to enjoy the nature as it is. And with hope that, Covid will end soon so that we can enjoy and appreciate the nature more.

I took this photo earlier last Saturday while it snowed heavily in Nottingham. It was my first day out of quarantine and I was blessed with beautiful views outdoors.

What I like about this photo:

The snowman here was the reason I was able to make my first set of friends here in Nottingham. Not only did he look dapper on camera, he was also an excellent icebreaker. Pun unintended.

Why I have shared it:

I shared this photo because I associate a warm and welcoming feeling with this picture due to reasons mentioned above, even with all the cold encompassed within.

This is one of my best pictures. I really like this image due to the vibrant colours, the yellow and gold tones almost represent a spotlight on the university building. In another way this picture is almost calming and quiet reflecting the emptiness of the campus due to the pandemic and also the ending of a long and hard day of lectures.

This was captured after a spontaneous walk around the main university campus with a loved one.
He re-directed us onto a path I was unfamiliar with (even though I’ve studied here for 4 years now) & after looking into a secret garden, we followed a family of rabbits that took us to a single bench located in the perfect spot overlooking this exact view. The sun decided that she wanted to start setting in that moment. Pictured is my loved one, who needed a still moment to absorb the entirety of it all. In his words “It’s amazing that even in times of hardship, a simple sunset can make you forget about it all and feel completely at peace.”
Bliss.

What I like about it: This is a picture of my every day view— except for the snow. It amazes me how one slight difference can totally change the way something is perceive. The moment I looked out of my window as soon as I woke up, I most certainly felt as if I was not in Nottingham. It's like I was transported to a magical world or something like that when I was sleeping.

Why I want to share it: This picture holds one of my treasured memories so far (throughout my two years living in Nottingham) because it was my first time experiencing a heavy snow. It was the most magical day of my life. The view was so remarkable and words alone are not enough to describe my gratefulness for that day.

Albeit a little late, but it really boosted my mood and allowed me to spend time with my family, all of whom are key workers.

Sometimes nature has a way of creating a blank canvas- this was a sign that we can start over and enjoy the little things, that lockdown won’t last forever and we can also enjoy this time at home.

The beach is called Viking Bay and it looks quite empty at the moment, partly because of Covid and partly because of the cold weather. It is a great view and a lovely beach, especially in the summer when it becomes very busy and has lots of nice pubs and shops to visit nearby. I like how calm it is this time of year, with the waves being quite gentle. It is a great place to walk or go for a run by! I've also attached a photo I found online of the beach at busier times.

I took this photo whilst on a walk with my friends over the Christmas Holidays. The tower is called Old John and is an important emblem for Leicestershire. As we were walking up the hill to watch the sunset, I noticed the man coming towards us and really loved the silhouette that was being created against the sky. Old John was built in 1784 and I like to think that this sight could have been witnessed at any time over the last couple of centuries. For me, it symbolises strength and power, and man’s ability to both develop and encompass nature. I have shared it becuase I think there’s something very solitary, yet peaceful about this photo, which is a large part of escaping these current times, by getting out of the house and being with your own thoughts to enjoy the natural world and the fresh air.

I, for one, am not an 'outdoor' person. I very much prefer to stay indoors most of the time however that day was a good day. This picture was taken at Highfields Park located just a couple minutes' walk from our house on the 24th of January this year. That day it was snowing hard and coincidentally it was one of my friends/housemates birthday! Isn't that cool? We are from Southeast Asia so it is impossible to see the snow, so that day, it felt magical to us and especially for her since it's her special day after all. That adds more the reason why I really like this picture of the very first snowman that we made together. Seeing this picture makes me remember all the fun times and laughters we shared that day and I will probably never forget it. I would find myself smiling looking at it that is why I hope you will crack at least a small smile after seeing our snowman too. From this short story of mine and the picture of our snowman, I hope people could take some time off and enjoy nature with loved ones especially when the sun is out or when it snows for a quality time together and of course do not forget your masks!

It’s really close to my house in Lenton and is a little pocket of nature within the city. It was so pretty walking along there and was even better when it snowed. I have been trying to go on a walk everyday in lockdown to help with my mental health and to keep me healthy. I have been walking down this path on my daily walk while I listen to a podcast and it is very peaceful.

I have been a key worker as a carer during lockdown and take public transport every day which includes a walk through this park. On a morning when we got plenty of snow, I walked through the park and listened to the birds singing and saw a couple dog walkers on their early walks. I took this picture and felt so grateful to have such beautiful surroundings. Being at home during lockdown hasn't been easy but being surrounded by these spaces has made it so much easier.

This is my rescue Border Collie, Little Beth (so-called, because my name is also Beth) in all four seasons in the great outdoors! The outdoors to me means adventure, freedom, and release. Seeing the smile and excitement on Little Beths face every time we embark on a new adventure in the forest, up the hills or even just down to the stream fills me with so much joy. There's nothing better than picking a random car park, parking up and exploring; getting lost in the sounds of birds whistling, the crinkle of leaves or snow beneath your feet or the rushing of streams, the sight of the colours changing from the yellow hue of spring through to the purest white of winter. I love the great outdoors because it genuinely brings such a smile to the faces of humans and animals alike and to be able to share that with little Beth has been beautiful and despite it being an ever-changing beauty it has proven to be a constant in an ever-changing world. And regarding little Beth, I'm still not sure who rescued who.

It is a picture of Saltburn, a small Victorian seaside town located in the North East of England. I love this photo as the sun is shining, the sea is still and the flowers in the foreground make the picture look really vibrant. The photo also shows the top of the Saltburn cliff lift, which is the oldest operating water-balance cliff lift in the UK! I was excited to see the beautiful sceneries but had to skip running due to cold weather. I went for a run after a day or two; the weather and outdoors were so fantastic that I could not stop going ahead and ahead. When I finally stopped, I had this view in front of me. Sun and snow on a green lawn with bare trees had made this spectacular landscape. It was the first time I saw so many natural phenomena at the same time. I also had covered more one-way distance than my regular routine distance. It was difficult to choose only one picture of the great outdoors.

I like the photo because it reminds me of family, in that, after my great grandma died (pre-covid) we were often visited by a friendly robin in our garden who would sit just mere meters away. With robins being related to the afterlife and loved ones, I always liked to think that it was my great grandma who joined us those times. So now, every time I see a robin, especially one that allows me to get this close without flying off, I think of her. I hope by sharing it, others also notice the friendly robins in their lives.

This is a picture I took of Keeper's Pond. It's a stunning and peaceful place to go walking. I adore going up there with my family to walk around in the fresh air and to enjoy the breath-taking welsh scenery. I want to share this picture because Keeper's Pond is relatively unknown outside of Wales, and it deserves recognition, as does all the welsh countryside. I hope the picture offers a glimpse into the beauty of Wales.

I took this on a walk in my local area. The sunset left a lovely pink hue that reflected off the snow. It emphasises the wild animal footprints and woods. It feels peaceful and calming which contrasts how people are feeling about the pandemic. I hope this sunset also brings a smile to others.

I have chosen to share this photos of my time in Dorset in July 2020 as, even though amidst a pandemic, it was the first time in which I truly admired the beauty of the country I live in and my urge to want to go abroad had suddenly went away. The moment taught me many things of which included to live in the present and not to take things for granted. It was also the first time after Lockdown 1 where we had a bit more freedom and was able to reunite with friends and celebrate the end of our 3rd year of university. The scenery speaks for itself, it is quite beautiful and shows just how amazing nature really is.
