From February 1st to February 5th (of 2024) the government declared a state of emergency for the wildfires that unfortunately took the lives of 131 people across the country.

Event No.2:

On June 13th (of 2024) due to the heavy rains across central and southern Chile, someone unfortunately lost their life.

Event No.3:

From August 13th to August 16th Workers at the Escondida copper mine went on a strike due to the failing of negotiating a fair pay between the workers and the owner BHP.

The national dance of Chile is called the Cueca. But this is more than just a dance, it's a representation of Chilean culture. This traditional dance is a very charming blend of all the country's diverse history.

Tradition No.2: Unique Traditions of Easter Island

Easter Island's festivals are a world apart from Chile. A festival called The Tapati Rapa Nui Festival, which is held February, is a prime example of that. In this tradition, two families compete in cultural competitions all over the island.

Gabriela Mistral is a famous poet whose works are speak to the essence of Chile and Latin America.

Tradition No.4: Chilean Rodeo

Chiles version of a rodeo, Chilean cowboys pin a calf against cushions in an arena, which just from that is much more different from America's rodeos.

Chile has very clear skies, so at night you can go to mountain tops to get the best view of the stars.

Chile is home to nine different species of penguins that live there. You can find many different Penguin tours in both the north and the south (the most popular is in Patagonia). You unfortunately cannot touch the Penguins, but you can see many different kinds of them up close.

Fun Things to Do No.3: Volcano Skiing

Wait what!? You can ski down a what!?!? That's right. Chile has a lot of volcanos, (about 2,000) so when it gets cold out, most of them get covered in beautiful white snow. The most popular volcanos to ski down are the Villarrica, Quetrupillan, and Lonquimay volcanos. It's one of the most iconic things to do in Chile.

Chile is located along the western coast of the southern cone of South America, which is between the highest section of the Andes Mountain chain and the Pacific Ocean.

Most of the people in Chile speak Chilean Spanish or different versions of it. Although, English and German are spoken there not the most popular.

The meaning behind the colors of the Chilean flag is that the white has been associated with the Andes Mountains, the blue with the sea, the red with the blood shed by the martyrs who died fighting for Chile's independence and the lone star represents the single and indivisible State of Chile.

1. Chile has the world's biggest pool.

2. In Chile, you can find the driest place on earth, which is the Atacama Desert.

3. Chile is a world class wine destination and is the ninth largest producer of wine in the world.

4. It is home to Easter Island.

5. There are several different species of penguins that in in Chile. The five species are King, Humboldt, Magellanic, Rockhopper, and Macaroni penguins.

Chilean cuisine offers a variety of dishes, including longanizas de chillan, pataska, sopaipillas, plateada, picante de guatitas, and chorillana. Longanizas de chillan is a traditional sausage made from pig meat pulp, oregano, garlic, paprika, and vinegar. Pataska is a spicy stew made from charqui, mote, and potatoes, traditionaly prepared in chiu-chiu village. Sopaipillas is a flat circular deep fried bread or scone made from flour, cooked pumpkin, salt, and lard. Plateada is a long baked meat dish made with garlic, salt, pepper, red wine, and vinegar. Picante de guatitas is a spicy tripe stew made with onions, potatoes, milk soaked bread, grated cheese, chili pepper, and pepper. Chorillana is a cholesterol rich dish made with french fries, finely cut onion, spicy sausage, beefsteak, and fried eggs. And finally, chorillana. Chorillana is served at the j cruz m traditional restaurant in valperaiso, and is perfect for those planning to climb hills in valparaiso. I did quite enjoy all of these dishes.

Yes, I know that I already used this in the Chilean traditions week, but it's still a sport so I just wanted to put it here to. Chile has there own unique spin on the rodeo the U.S. offers. Chilean Culture:

Chiles culture is a very rich and diverse with many different aspects. Some of my favorite aspects are the family focused aspect, the art, Chilean rodeo, and literature. I like Chilean art is very wacky and goes all over the place. I've only read little bits of Chilean literature here and there, but what I heard I liked. And finally, I like how Chiles version of the rodeo doesnt revolve around bull riding or ropes to tie up cattle.

Chilean Traditions:

Chile has very fun and interesting traditions. My personal favorite tradition is their dances, but I'll get into that later. Chiles festivals also caught my attention. Their festivals, on both the main country and on easter island. The Tapati Rapa Nui Festival, an easter island festival, is my favorite. I like the idea of families being pinned up against each other in activities all across the island. Much different from any festival the U.S. has.

And finally, Chilean tourism. Chile has many fun places to visit. I like how Chile has a variety of thing you can do that arent normal. You can go from watching penguins to surfing down a volcano. I especially love the idea of surfing down a volcano because you can't do that kind of thing in the U.S.. Everywhere there is a volcano in the U.S., it's in a place where the climate doesnt really snow.
