How i can show traditional knowledge or elders teachings at practicum is teaching the children their surroundings of the area they are at, being able to remind them to not just leave things that they brought outside by respecting the land, being able to pass down speaking and writing in Inuktitut even by singing. It is harder to explain to younger children but using fewer words and giving examples on how it works they can also learn them from watching the facilitator/caregiver doing one of the activities that are planned. Being able to work together to get things done quicker.

I try and show respect for traditional knowledge at daycares by telling stories to the educators, I try to speak my language around children which is Inuktitut, I sing and talk to them in Inuktitut, I teach the educators simple words in Inuktitut, I also tell stories to educators on how sewing is very important in our culture. I have sealskin slippers that I use at my practicum placements and I get asked “Did you make those? Can you show me how to make those?” And I tell them that it is not simple completed slippers because we have to trace patterns, cut the sealskin, sew nicely but it all depends on styles. Elders teach younger children (even adults) by showing and telling them that we have to respect all living things because we all have a purpose - People, Animals, Plants, Earth: We all have purpose and deserve respect
