Having a full understanding of what rhetorical situation is and the different kinds of rhetorical situations present in various writing will help an individual become an expert writer. Rhetorical situations consist of multiple aspects but in this essay I am going to focus on the importance of purpose and audience in writing and how these concepts go hand in hand in creating and understanding writing aimed for different reasons.

A vital concept that makes up the Rhetorical Situation of any writing is the purpose of the writing itself. But, what is Purpose? Purpose is the answer to the question "why?" author is writing a piece. Every writing has a purpose to it, understanding your own writing and others writing pieces purpose helps understand the overall message of the writing.

The purpose of this quote and this writing was to prove his point and claim about this idea by providing studies and statistics to prove his claim.

According to who and what the writing is about the tone and language used in the writing varies.

Another concept that primarily sticks out in writing is the audience. The audience is the group of people writing, message, or speech is directed towards. After knowing the purpose of ones writing knowing who the writing is for helps understand the overall intent behind the reason for a piece of writing. Audiences of different writing pieces can vary widely from yourself to people of old age, young age and officials.

In my own writing, where I am sending a text to my best friend "Omg you wont believe what I heard...Can I call you for a sec?" This quote shows how informal my writing can be because the audience of this piece of writing or text is just my best friend and the only individual that will read it will be my best friend, therefore, the tone and style of my writing becomes informal without any introduction.

In the article, " 'Do Not Litter' Signs Can be Counterproductive" by Tom Jacobs quotes "As Keizer and his colleagues note, these findings have direct implications for policymakers." This quote from this article shows how the main group of people this study and writing was created was to show policymakers the flaw in their system. Tome Jacobs wanted to prove his point through the use of evidences and studies to show how signs are not having any impact due to the environment it is placed in. Therefore, Jacobs is trying to inform the policymakers that in order for littering to be prevented then they should clean the area and place the sings in clean areas for the signs to work effectively.

Overall I discussed about the importance of purpose and audience in analyzing texts and in every texts. Knowing the purpose and audience of texts gives a general understanding of what the writing is about. The purpose of a writing shows the readers "why?" the author is writing a piece. Diary entries can have the purpose of self reflection to research papers that inform and educate others about current issues. The audience is different from readers who encounter a piece of writing. Audience is the group of people the writing is directed towards. Knowing the audience helps show "why" the author wrote a piece and helps focus and target a group of individuals making the writing more defined and meaningful. By using these concepts in our own writing and observing them in others we can also become skillful writers.
