In this quote you can see how one of the first changes of the Cultural Revolution impacted the children. The children of the future by making the girls wear hijabs, and then separating them based on gender. In any leadership role its a goal to effect the children cause they will grow up and be the ones that will lead the future. That's why so many decisions society makes is to protect or teach the children. This choice is also taking away their freedom of choice, and in most cases they didn't appreciate being forced to wear a type of hijab

The social class division affects everybody even the children. The children don't quite grasp it but society has placed them into certain lives based on the class they were born in. For those on the bottom life is hard, and their rights are minimal to those of higher class. Those kids of lower class must work from a young age to help their families.

The changes to the country by having the church lead are driving whole families with their roots set to move to a whole new country. A big reason Marji and her family stayed in the country was cause their social class was a higher medium class. This quote also shows how other families are willing to take such a big step because of the sensed future oppression.

Education is a big thing to many people. If you have the education you have the power to change things for yourself like your class because you can do more fulfilling work. The ports being closed, and universities being shut down means the people can't better themselves, or lift the chains their government is slowly putting on them.

Women and girls are being forced to wear the veil from the government and the public. Being forced not to show their feminine side. We really see this through Marji's eyes with her rebellious streak how demeaning this was for many. Not being able to express through the colors/type of clothes how you feel, and being scared to walk in the street with a small strand left out from getting threatened with assault.
