More and more vulnerabilities appear as time goes on, and it is inevitable that there will be conflict. 
For example, the atomic bomb. If it wasn't used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, it could have possible lead to WW3 in the 1960s, which would have been a nuclear war.
