I don’t expect the form to look like me especially as this is a learning process, a journey of research and making.
When working on the sculpture I wonder where my DNA would lead me to, who my ancestors may have been, how many countries to I belong too.  North Africa, Scotland, Spain, Ireland ? We all have a story . If only our heads could project our past generations.
I listen to music or artist biographies when working on the clay, it takes me out of my own headspace , into another dimension enabling me to concentrate.
The truth is, after a year of lockdown, studio time becomes precious as who knows if we will go into another lock down in winter.

Honestly, I’t will always fascinate me, that human hands have carved these forms from various stones. To think the crafts people and the subjects have long gone, yet we are still left with the shadows.
It was actually great seeing the sculptures in 3D, as I could really look at each side, top and bottom. To be honest I’d never really looked at portrait sculptures as intensely until this project, I now look at them in a different  light as I have a deep appreciation for the the crafts person, the hands behind the head.
