tone words- "ghostly" and "lovely"

these tone words highlight the shift in tone as the poems speaker ends her ride throughout the willow grove. "lovely" conveys the speaker's fondness of the memory she thinks back to during the summer when she was 10, while the word "ghostly" implies that there is something missing that once was there. this indicates her loss of this childlike wonder

at the start of the poem we can feel the author's nostalgia when she retells this memory. there are more exciting/upbeat words such as "fast" ,"trot" , and "jouncing" in the beginning of the poem while at the end of the poem the contrast of the speakers tone is apparent due to the use of words like "ghostly","quiet","clean". this highlights the authors contrast in mood

In Mary Swenson’s poem “The Centaur”, the poem reveals the contrasting ideas of enjoying being a kid and young imagination through the use of imagery. The poem ultimately expresses how innocent life is during these years.
