I find Marshall's reasoning as to why the Cherokees must be separated in order to unify the nation and ultimately for the safety of the tribes really fascinating because it creates defines the duality f his character and his role as a justice by showing which sides he truly supported.  I mean was he the bad guy eh maybe not.
