Social media allows users to comment anonymously, so they are not held accountable for what they say. Insensitive comments can thus be made about someone without any direct repercussions on oneself.

The content shown on social media is also unrealistic, and given how it is within our human nature to compare ourselves to others, seeing others living a better life than yourself will no doubt make some jealous, which may lead to unreasonable hatred.

It has many different forms such as annonymously commenting hate comments on one person's post, spreading rumours/private information and impersonation

intensity and amount of negative comments that can be conveyed within cyber spaces will usually be at a very large scale, the amount of emotional trauma that victims will feel would be very deep rooted

negative comments they receive turn into echo chambers, victims don't hear or see other perspectives, leading to a never ending cycle of self criticism and hatred
