As teenagers enter puberty, they experience significant physical, emotional, and social changes. Boys develop facial, and pubic hair, as well as a voice change, while girls grow pubic hair and breasts and start their periods. Peer pressure becomes known throughout the time of young teens, leading to potential issues such as drug abuse, eating disorders, and depression. Teens become more independent, making their own choices about friends, activities, and academics. Emotional changes include self-consciousness and increased stress. Parents play a crucial role in supporting their teens by encouraging open communication, monitoring their activities, and promoting healthy habits like regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and adequate sleep. Additionally, ensuring safety by discussing topics like seatbelt use, avoiding risky behaviors, and setting clear boundaries is essential during this developmental stage.

In the article from Mayo Clinic, I learned about all of the different body changes that come with aging and why they happen. For example, as you get older, your bones shrink which results in bone/joint pain. I also learned things like eating healthy will have a positive long-term effect on your memory. Along with talking about things that are changing with your body, they also express ways to help combat these issues.

After reading about the changes that occur in the brain as we age and the various strategies to potentially decrease cognitive decline, I feel fascinated. Learning about the research and discoveries in the field of neuroscience gives people hope for age-related cognitive decline because it may not be entirely inevitable. The steps to prevent the decline include regular exercise, engaging in intellectually stimulating activities, maintaining a healthy diet, and staying socially active. These serve as good tools to take improve one's cognitive health. I think it is interesting that simple lifestyle choices/changes can make a significant difference on preserving mental abilities and improving overall quality of life as we age. This signifies the importance of brain health throughout life and gives the potential for a nice and vibrant aging process.

I learned that like many different ages have different learning objectives or influences that affect their development at that level. Inappropriate parenting, neglect, failure to find love all affect different age groups ability to function as members of society. There's very specific issues that can occur at each stage of life if not protected or encouraged properly, such as young girls experiencing "penis envy" if not exposed to enough strong woman role models

Grief can harbor many emotions such as anger, sadness, confusion, and other emotions. No one experiences grief the same way or for the same amount of time. Anticipatory grief can help prepare someone for a loss and allow them to start resolving issues with the dying loved one. Grief can last for prolonged amounts of time and be filled with many changing emotions and feelings. Behaviors can change in a person experiencing grief. They may stay away from others or become even closer with others, it changes for each person. The length of the grieving process can depend on many factors such as the relation to the person who died, the cause of death, and religious beliefs after death. Grief is a difficult healing process that takes time to pass and settle for everyone.

I read about why our voices change as we grow in our teen years. The main reason for this is because our larynx is changing sizes. When boys have "cracks" in their voices it is because their bodies aren't used to the changing size yet. Most of the time this happens between 11-15 years old, but the time line is different for everyone. A deep voice is caused by a larger larynx, thicker vocal cords, and bigger resonating area. These things cause the sound of the voice to drop, and once the larynx has grown your voice will become more stable again.

As children mature from age 3 to 10, they start to develop a personality for themselves reactive of the environment around them. Fear and poor emotions can embed into the child for the entire duration of their adolescence, so watch what you are allowing your child to take in. Another thing I found was that as children grow, peer involvement becomes increasingly more vital for the development of the child. They begin to understand self identity and belonging in a group. Setting a good example and offering quality role models to children are some of the best forgotten things that we can do to help adolescences grow and mature.

Similar to the theories we've just learned about, it addresses that these years are extremely significant for peoples development and are greatly affected by their parental figures. I learned that this involves their cognitive and motor development, to do things such as speak or use hand signals to represent needs.
