         <description><![CDATA[<div>A tendency to reduce expectations in order to accommodate the new brain of the student, but this doesn’t do them any favors. Instead, we need to innovate how to reach those same high expectations with the “new wired” brain in mind. Ironically, the PSAT scores appear consistent. Is the test reflecting the same “dumbing it down” tendancy? By focusing on how to teach the students to think critically, we will give our students an advantage over the national average. <br><br>With this goal in mind, there are changes which must be made to our instructional design. Giving students a chance to express themselves visually will help develop their critical thinking skills while appealing to their color starved brains: think mind mapping rather than outlining, story boarding rather than summarizing. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The discrepancy between newer students and long term students’ math skills is fairly large, so the higher scoring students are probably boosting the average in math.<br><br><br>Adding value and reasons behind what we are teaching can help motivate students when it’s “hard”.<br><br><br>‘Googling answers’ is so easy and acceptable (to them) and that is how they think they should be working. <br><br>It does help when the work is applicable to them. <br><br>We want NO CALCULATORS until 2nd semester algebra 1.</div>]]></description>
