My eyes have really been opened lately while thinking about self-care in my life. Recently, my husband and I went to a youth pastor camp (he is a youth pastor) and we talked a lot about self-care. We talked about pouring back into ourselves and making sure that our cup is full before we can fill other people's cup. This really applies to the field of school counseling. School counseling requires you to constantly make sure that you are on top of helping other people and being able to help them cope through hard things and if you haven't provided yourself with self-care, then how can you really provide them with any help at all? Some things that I do to help myself with self-care is making sure that I take time to spend with God, and my family. God is always number one in my life and my personal relationship with him. Without my relationship with God, I am nothing. Being with my family also really helps me get back and focused and realize why I do what I do.

Self-Care strategy #1:

Being able to worship God and go to church is number one for me. I really have to be able to keep my faith and relationship with God a priority in my life in order to feel like I am doing right by my own self. Church is really important to me and my family. My husband just recently got me a new study bible and I feel like it is perfect for me to be able to read, reflect, and journal on what I've learned.

Self-Care strategy #2:

Making sure that I make time to be with my family and have that special time where we are not doing anything but loving on each other, talking, and hanging out. Sometimes we get caught up in daily life of being super busy and have to carve out that special extra time to stop and just be together. A lot of times it is Sunday after church when we get that special time.

Self-Care strategy #3:

Taking care of myself and keeping my personal look up is very important to me. It may sound silly, but being able to get my nails done each month is a big deal to me. I like to make sure that my appearance is kept up so that I feel my best and look my best.
