My grandma was a very light skinned, Irish girl who married a darker skinned Filipino man. This is different to what people expected since, in her time, most people were not used to light and dark skinned people marrying each other. She then moved to the Philippines while pregnant and with a son, her father, my great grandpa, was not happy with her decision. The five qualities I admire most are kindness, loyalty, empathy, courage, and humor. I admire kindness, empathy, and loyalty becuase it makes me feel loved. I admire courage since I don’t always have the courage to do certain things. Finally, I admire humor becuase I like to laugh and to make others laugh.

The first quote is “All one can really leave ones children is what’s inside their heads. Education, in other words, and not earthly possessions, is the ultimate legacy, the only thing that cannot be taken away”. - Dr Werner von Braun
This means that education is the only thing that others cannot take away. There is also nothing more powerful than education since it nurtured future generations minds. This means that education is a gift that helps all. Education is also the only thing left for one to turn to when you can’t think of anything else.

The second quote is “all I’ve done is give you a book. You hove to have the courage to learn what’s inside”. This means that one can only give another the materials to succeed. It’s up to the person to help themselves succeed. This quote also shows that most people are given what they need to succeed but some people don’t use what they are given to try to succeed. Some people also don’t have something to drive them to be successful even though they have everything they need to be successful.

In Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam Sonny feels that without family, there is nothing. He also feels that he is the the least important in his family and the weakest and that he can do close to nothing with his life. He is also scared of his dad but very close with his mom. “Mom said I took advantage of you, and she’s right” (97). Homer jr. find family important because he listens to what his family says. He not only listens but uses their words in his life and applies them in his life. Homer jr.’s mom is asking Homer if he has learned anything from what she said about making his father accept him as a son. Homer jr starts to reply but Elsie realizes that he didn’t learn so she tell him to “show him you can do something! Build a rocket!” (45) Elsie is telling Homer to prove to his dad and himself that he can do anything he wants. Elsie is very influential in Homers life and wants to help Homer succeed and do amazing things. Elsie is one of the most important things in Homers life because she gives him so much helpful advice. Overall, Homer believes that family is the most important thing in life.
