The message of the source shows the impact of the introduction of National Service. National Service caused the people in Singapore to panic and hesitate on whether to go or not. This is shown in source D that states, "The introduction of National Service(NS) to be highly debatable and resistance came from several fronts."
The parents were also worried about their children's future if they were enlisted in National Service, with that said, the "youths saw soldiering as an undesirable and economically useless path"
Therefore, source D shows how Singaporeans react to the introduction of National Service back then in its early days.

The author wants to send the message of source D which shows that some parents are not willing to let their sons go for NS as it may affect their future. This can be seen in source D which states ' many parents objected due to concerns about NS affecting their children's future'. Many youths thought that being a soldier is not a suitable path for them pursue in the future too.

The message of source D shows the different reasons as to why the parents objected to their children enrolling into National Service. This can be seen from source D which states "Many parents objected due to concerns about NS affecting their children's future, many youths saw soldiering as an undesirable and economically usless path, and protests came from those who viewed NS as another government propaganda tool." Hence this shows that the parents had legitimate reasons as to why they worry about their children's future about National Service.
