But I am very tired of how the dialogue is being manipulated by politicians. They determine the range of options that are available to discuss. "Defund the Police" is misleading - we need to redirect monies to social programs... and re-imagine what the role is for our police. They shouldn't have to be social- workers et al. I don't mind risking my safety, but I have to think of my family as well.]]> 2020-06-10 18:15:34 UTC https://padlet.com/marissa_winmill/25eu8g8r5s9d/wish/621232783 Feelings https://padlet.com/marissa_winmill/25eu8g8r5s9d/wish/621234331 The race issue has been a problem ever since 1619.  Then the Constitution ensured it and it took a Civil War to rip it from the teeth of the nation.  Yet, laws are barely effectual.  Laws do not change culture, culture changes culture.  After the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments we had three waves of the Ku Klux Klan, Jim Crow, segregation, Salma, MLK and Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, the Black Panthers, mass incarceration and now Black Lives Matter.  Culture changes racism with a preeminence over laws.  The implications of that suggest we need black and white people working together as co-equals in various professions, attending the same churches, watching the same basketball games and voting in the same elections.  They need to work towards solving shared problems.  And remember that it was black people who led to their liberation in the Civil War.
