Introduction/Week 1

Hello! My name is Camila Ruiz Raya and I actually live in Mexico. I study in León (Guanajuato), so during the week I'm there, but I actually live in San Luis Potosí, another beautiful city in the center of Mexico. I hope that I can share with you some new things, and I hope that I can learn from your own perceptions of Mexico. Regarding the first activity, I will be sharing with you my favorite recipe, Enchiladas de Mole: https://www.cocinafacil.com.mx/recetas-de-comida/receta/enchiladas-de-mole/

Also, I would like to share with you the virtual map of my favorite city, my hometown, San Luis Potosí: https://satellites.pro/mapa_de_San_Luis_Potosi.Estado_de_San_Luis_Potosi.Mexico

The "On Your Own" activity made me think about my favorite things, so it also made me appreciate the beautiful things that we have in Mexico. Something new I learned in relation to Health and Well-Being in my own research, is that we actually have some important researchers trying to figure out better ways to make sure that we have resources to generate welfare and well-being in Mexico. Also, the results of a research made by Navarro-Chávez, Ayvar-Campos and Giménez-García (2016), made clear that the entities (in Mexico) with greatest resources aren't necessarily the ones that generate greatest social welfare and well-being, letting us know that well-being consists/depends on different aspects, not just resources: http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1405-84212016000300591

I would also like to share, that currently I'm working on my bachelor's thesis, and precisely, it emphasizes 2 of the many aspects that are basic for well-being: positive relationships and life meaning, so I hope that the findings of my research help this country in that matter.
I really liked the session with Julian. I had to watch the video because at the time of the session I had to work, but I learned a lot. Perhaps the most important takeaway for me was the part when he explained the fool's paradise and the fool's hell, because that is completely true, as a Mexican I've seen it and experienced it. Also, the whole session made me think about the different Archetypes that Mexican people embody (myself as well), and some of them can be seen in the "Well-Being Tropes" he explained. Finally, stereotypes indeed reduce the deepness and complexity of the Mexican truth, it limits diversity, Mexico is many things. Personally, I've experienced the effect of these representations outside the country.

Hi everyone! My name is Camila Ruiz Raya, and I live in Mexico. I'm currently studying psychology at the Universidad Iberoamericana León, one more year to go! I still don't know what I want to do after I graduate, but I would love to get certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, because I'd like to work with eating disorders and personality disorders. I also like positive psychology, my current thesis is about positive interpersonal relationships and character strengths, I'm still doing the field work. I also work as a German teacher, I had the opportunity to work in Germany at a Kindergarten, I love working with kids. Thanks to that experience, I got to know the language, so now I teach basic German. Apart from that, I love listening to music, specially rock and metal :)
Nice to meet you all!

Wellness & Selfcare / Week 2

Hi everybody! I am familiar with the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, because we've been looking and discussing them at school. Regarding the third Goal, I've also made a little research about it because I'm currently studying psychology, and because of that matter, I actively support the target 3.4, becase it is about promoting mental health and psychology does exactly that. Also, in promoting mental health in young adults, we address the target 3.5. I'm not a psychologist yet, but I think that I help in both targets through my practices and internships.
The materials of this week expand my view of wellness and self-care, especially in my own country (Mexico). We should promote well-being in Mexico by including everyone, because it is well-known that there is a lot of inequity in this country, and sadly it is also something that affects the area of wellness, because many people only have the bare minimum, and many healthcare professionals work in the private sphere, forgetting about more than half of the Mexican population (also, public healthcare is usually bad in Mexico). The idea of bringing well-being/prevention to the communities using creative projects (Irene and Daniel) and creating special programs (Luis Angel Castañeda), is something that we as Mexicans should consider. We should be well-informed about our circumstances, and we should have a more open-creative mind, so we can help everyone and make wellness and self-care more accesible to the entire population.

Human Trafficking and Community Service/ Week 3

Definitely the goal of "Good Health and Well-being" means something to me because of my studies and my future professional work. The specific target that means something to me and the experiences that connect me to this target are:
*By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being -> this target relates to what a psychologist does: promote mental health and well-being. I've had the opportunity to work with some organizations and institutions throughout my studies, creating interventions regarding mental health. On the other hand, Mexico is not a country that relies on prevention, but my Bachelor Thesis is actually about prevention (specifically researching more about positive interpersonal relationships, preventing conflictive interpersonal relationships), something I think Mexico lacks (research and interest in these areas), but I think that prevention is something extremely important and necessary.

Wellness wheel and sources of health / Week 4

I find the wheel (sources) very interesting, because I think we don't really stop and think what "wellbeing" really is, we tend to leave out a lot of its components. We also tend to leave out the center of it: your purpose. I think that is really deep and it is something that we need to start promoting (since childhood), one's purpose and the importance it has. Like the speaker said, it actually al starts with awareness, and I think that we need to cultivate it, but it takes time, that why we need to include it in education programs. Lastly, I think that strengthening the sources of individual health also helps strengthening the sources of community health and well-being, but we do have to see them both as interconnected.
Final thoughts: this course has helped me to get to know my country a little bit more. I think that as a future psychologist, that is a very important part: get to really know the context. It also made me think about the different aspects of well-being, it isn't just "one thing", there is a lot more to it. I liked the course because of all the reflections that it made me think of, and I think that in the future I'll be able to incorporate the complete "well-being" concept with whatever I end up doing.
