Three ways to classify businesses are by size, industry and ownership. Examples of businesses that are close to where I live and could be classified by size would be: Tim Hortons as a large business and Boiling Over (a coffee shop) as a small business. Businesses that would be classified by industry are: McDonalds and Boston Pizza as food industries and Musicentre as a music industry. Kent Inn and Days Inn and Suites Lindsay as accommodation industries. Another way to classify businesses is by ownership. An example of a sole proprietorship in Lindsay is Esther's Earrings (a jewelry business). An example of a partnership is Ward and Ward Lawyers and an example of a corporation is Dollarama.

There are many ways to classify businesses, but three ways I can think of are size, number of locations, and industry. By size, I mean the physical size of the building. Large stores could be companies like Home Depot, or Costco. Examples of medium sized businesses could be hotels, such as Holiday Inn, or Best Western. Small sized stores could be fast food stores, such as McDonalds or Subway.
Number of locations is a good way to classify businesses. Some will be massive chain businesses, others will be just one store.
Industry is probably the best way to define a business. If it sells food, home appliances, entertainment, clothing, etc. You know exactly what you can get before entering the store.

Another way to classify a business is by if they are selling a good or a service and what category that good or service falls into. If the store sells food that you take home to eat and cook with and they have a large veriety of food you might call that a grocery store. if they sell a bike repair service and bike parts you might call them a bike store. another way to classify businesses is if they have products that are sold in stores and retail outlets or if you can only buy their products online

three ways to classify businesses in my area would be by gross income per year, number of employees, and whether or not they are a franchise. For instance, I believe that the local feed store is not a franchise and has relatively few employees (ten?), so I would classify them as a small business. Our local walmart, on the other hand, is a franchise and likely makes a lot more gross profit in a year than the local feed store. In addition to this it has more employees than the feed store so, i would classify them as a large business.
