In the '60s and '70s the Pacific Northwest played a big role in the LGBTQ+ rights movement and fighting for equality. Today, that early activism has paved the way for victories like marriage equality and anti-discrimination laws.

The Oregon Country Fair, founded in 1969 in Veneta, Oregon, is more than just a festival- it's a reflection of the social and cultural values that challenge mainstream systems and continue to shape the Pacific Northwest. For me personally, the fair represents many of the reasons I've grown to love Oregon and the community I've found here. It offers a glimpse into a more compassionate and connected world- one where people are uplifted collectively. The fair is centered around counterculture, environmental sustainability, artistic expression, healing practices, and exchange of goods and services.

The Pacific Northwest's unique landscapes have fostered a strong environmental consciousness, inspiring communities to support progressive policies that show respect for nature. Since the 1960s, conservation efforts to protect old-growth forests started the "Timber Wars." Today, environmental activism continues, with climate justice movements led by indigenous leaders, youth, and communities impacted by climate change.
