In How America’s Broken Promise to Millions of Students Became the Status Quo, it discusses how a teacher was ready to go above and beyond for her students who needed extra resources. She was paying out of pocket to supply them with as many resources as possible on her own dime including working extra hours at no pay. An education is a right that each person is allowed to have no matter their disability and if we aren’t giving them resources to help them be successful, we are failing them. A teacher does not make a lot of money, so it is unfair that any teacher should have to pay out of pocket in order to do their job efficiently. It is the federal government that should be ensuring that each school, and each classroom, has the resources they need to aid these students. If we had this, maybe we could keep teachers in the classroom instead of them burning out because they are trying to do the impossible for 25 students.

It made me angry. Not providing millions of students with proper accommodations isn't just unfair it's illegal. It is upsetting to know the legislation isn't being properly followed and so many students are at risk. These kids are our future and we're failing them.

This article was very sad to read especially reading about how the teachers are being underpaid or not paid at all for the extra hours and money they are spending for the special education program. And the fact that this is still going on is just unfair to all of these students. It is not their fault they did not choose that way of life everything should be funded equally.

When reading the article, Why Special Education isn’t Working, I read that they believe that an all-inclusive classroom was more beneficial to students with all needs. I agree that a classroom should be all inclusive as long as there are enough teachers to accommodate these children who need extra services and each student should be with peers of their current academic level instead of split by age. By encouraging inclusion, it will also teach all children to be excepting of others needs.

It is concerning to know about how education works in general. To see that teachers are trying but it is still not enough because at th end of the day children need a whole team to work with/for them.

Overall very eye-opening into the current state of the special needs classrooms in our country today. My favorite section was the "what should we do", where it was highlighted that differentiating and specializing instruction for every child is useful, causing really no further need for the separation of childlren with special need.

Including special education students in everyday general education classrooms is more typical nowadays, but the funding and resources would need to be fed more in order for the teachers to receive it and enact it themselves.

I think that this article semes kind of familiar to me. I've done a lot of research on inclusivity and the benefits of it. I think special education is such an important yet tricky situation. I think having special education students in typical classrooms is so beneficial, but these students still need to have the benefits of special needs instructions.

This one was also sad because these students are stuck and left behind many times when they are put in the special education program. This is also unfair they should be able to move on with all of the other students. I never knew that any of these issues were actually going on.

I feel like the system can work and provide for students who are in special needs class, it just that the system do not seem to care about them. Which is why most parents fight for their children to go to school.
