This piece of art is part of our cultural identity and how as humans we see nature. Art is a form of language that expresses our way of seeing the world, our culture, and who we are as humans. This piece, one of 12, narrates and explores the complexities of the amazing Amazon jungle.

At first sight, this piece of art seem like a dark and cloudy jungle, but if you take a closer look, you will see how the painting show the violence that people in Colombia, specially in Catatumbo, have to face.

I like this picture because for me show how in the eyes of most of the people the violence isn’t important and could be invisible if is away from you, but when you get closer you can see a lot of problems and history.

It is so beautiful how all the little hens and turkeys are painted, everything in perfect harmony, all so warm.

for me, it’s really interesting to see how art has envolved over time.

At first, paradise was represented as an ideal place, imagined as a natural space filled with light and nature.

But, with the vegetal god, we can see that with the passage of time, believing that paradise was in the amazon and after being discovered, paradise began to be represented as an ideal darker place, it was seen more as a reality than as an ideal.

Also, by looking the shapes, colors and forma, we can deduce that for the author, nature is seen as something confusing and complex.

It’s like if the author is saying that nature is not just a perfect place, but also a mysterious one.

For me the vegetal god, with its dark and strange forms, represents the unknown and uncontrollable aspects of nature. Maybe I could say that it shows that nature is not something to be admire, but also to be respected and understood

What I surprised me the most of the today's visit to "Paraísos y Jardines" guided exhibition was the idea that we suffer of "vegetal blind", that means that given that we grew in a city environment and with a western world of view, we don't see the vegetation neither its details and its complexity. For that reason, I think that Abel Rodríguez's watercolor pains are so important, because through those paints we can understand the point of view of a person who grew in the middle of the Amazon jungle, as a result, thanks to those paints we can appreciate that kind of paradise with its details and its beauty.

For me this painting conveys a sense of calm and joy. When I saw it I felt it was an invitation to appreciate the beauty of nature and the importance of stopping to observe it. Renoir not only paints a landscape, but makes us feel the warmth of the sun on the grass, the movement of the wind through the trees and the tranquility of the environment.

His style, which is certainly impressionistic, reminds us that beauty is not in the perfect details, but in the perception of the moment, in the light that changes, in the colors that mix freely. In a fast-paced world, this paint teaches us to value the ephemeral and to find harmony in the everyday, not only in a landscape of France, but also in our beloved Bogota.

María Paz Salom Muñoz

The painting shows a peaceful and quiet moment, where time seems to move slowly. On one side, the old building gives a feeling of tradition and stability, but at the same time, the trees and plants make it feel fresh and natural, even in the city. Also, the person dressed in black, walking alone, makes the scene look calm and thoughtful. The soft colors, natural light, and small details create a place that invites you to think and relax.

I chose this painting because it caught my attention how the author portrays an Afro-descendant woman under a bunch of bananas. This representation is key because it shows us how Afro-descendant women become property of conquest and dominion, just like the New World, where they believed they had found the Garden of Eden due to this tropical and exotic vegetation and flora. Knowing that a place like this, which everyone wanted to conquer and colonize, became a territory that Colombians have disputed for many years. The banana areas of Colombia, far from being a garden of Eden, have been places where war and violence have marked the history of the country.

(I couldn't put the original because of sensitive content)

For me, this painting means something beyond its natural meaning. I see how the objectification of women is also represented in the painting and how throughout history we have been stripped of everything just for male complacency. By entering into an area in which we always want to be pleasing men and for that very reason they also take away pieces of us (Since the Bible, which by the way was written by men, we are accused of all the evils of human beings), of our lands, of our everything. I feel that the stripping of the land can also be understood in a literal sense, since always in history women have been put in the background or have been limited to being ladies-in-waiting or muses of men. Our individual existence takes a backseat and we become the shadow of the attributes of the man who accompanies us. For me this also represents the question: What is left for us as women after these thefts of identity? The earth is also our history and our journey, it is also the achievements we have had as women and that have been taken from us, however, unfortunately, the world works in such a way that we are violated and we have no choice but to stay there, watching how they take away from us what we have built with so much effort in silence.

I chose this work of art because it conveys a feeling of delicacy and fragility in each of the flowers. The colors and arrangement of the plants show the harmony and the different expressions of beauty that the different flowers have. Each one of them tells a story, has a background and is responsible for reflecting a unique essence, so even though they are all flowers, each one represents a different sensation and harmony to me.

It also evokes the idea of a modern herbarium, where instead of physically preserving the plants, they are immortalized in images that seem to float, a way of collecting images of flowers in a more eternal way.
