This is my observation from living on a hall with majority Jamaicans. They love listening to dancehall, and most of all, it haven't had a Jamaican that i have met yet, who cannot dance. It seems like the music is embedded into their souls. If the music plays they move to the rhythm.

It represents the West Indies, they are one of the best cricket teams. Each region also has their teams to represent them.

Cricket is Wired into the DNA of persons from the Caribbean. Children from the ages of 3+ grows up playing cricket in the backyard or a nearby savanna.

Music, festivals and sports, you can even add food and dance to that list but it isn't the main focus. There are a lot of music genres, when it comes to the Caribbean, Especially Soca, which was not mentioned by itself above. Also other festivals and sport, all of this was taught in class. When i registered for Caribbean Civilization, i really had no wide knowledge of the Caribbean. i learnt a lot especially from the book. The whole course is organised tremendously and i applaud the lecturer. During the semester, it was quite tedious, but it was all worth it. The understanding i have of the Caribbean now, i can re-evaluate my prior thoughts that i could not answer myself, and have the answer.
