Target learners: further education students studying a PLC course in communications in Whitehall college further education

Timing: 60-90 minute lesson

By the end of the lesson students will be able to:

1. Define a definition of non-verbal communication

2. Negatives of non-verbal communications

3. List a range of non-verbal communications

4. Understand the importance of non-verbal communications.

1. Firstly students will be given access to the powerpoint.

2. Using a pre recorded power link I will start by asking students to think to themselves about what they know about non-verbal communication.

3. I will then ask students to think and write down what can be a negative of non-verbal communication.

4. Throughout the lesson students should be taken notes which will help for the quiz at the end

   
   

Timing: 15 minutes

Resources: powerpoint

1. Through a pre recorded powerpoint I will talk briefly what the YouTube video will be explaining.

2. Students should be thinking of any non-verbal communications they know and use.

3. Students will be sent a YouTube video that explains a 'definition and explanation of non-verbal communication', 'types and advantages of non-verbal communications'.

Timing: 10 minutes

Resources: Powerpoint, YouTube video

1. Students should write a reflection piece on the first few slides.

2. Writing a reflection piece encourages critical thinking and makes them reflect on what they have just been taught.

Timing: 15 minutes

1. After the slides have been completed I will put the students into small groups. Together in the groups using padlet students will think of ways to incorporate non-verbal communication into their daily conversations.

2. Working in groups will allow students to share different ideas and share their own opinions

1. A Kahoot will be sent to all students and they must answer the questions on their own.

2. After the Kahoot has been completed students will be given the chance to ask any questions through a google form they are still unsure of or any things they thought went well throughout the lesson.

3. This will allow me to prepare lessons in the future and change any aspects that did not work effectively
